Mary Lou McDonald: I remind the Taoiseach that he made commitments not to introduce welfare cuts and I ask him to reiterate that commitment to the House. I also ask the Taoiseach to address the issue of proposed cuts to rent supplement, which keeps a roof over 95,000 households. Mary Lou McDonald: In the absence of the published comprehensive spending review and of the Taoiseach giving any affirmation to the House that he will not cut welfare, we are left with conjecture. I judge from the tone of his remarks that he is equivocating. He is not prepared to repeat his pre-election promise to protect welfare payments.
