Non-Use of Motor Vehicles Bill 2013: Second Stage (24 Apr 2013)

Michael Healy-Rae: I thank the Technical Group and all who work so diligently in the Whip's office for allowing me some speaking time. I appreciate that at all times. I am totally opposed to the Bill before the House, because it is lacking in common sense. I have read the Minister of State's contribution and what is being proposed in the Bill. The Government is castigating people by generalising and...

Non-Use of Motor Vehicles Bill 2013: Second Stage (24 Apr 2013)

Michael Healy-Rae: -----is ill-treating the highly respectable members of An Garda Síochána. If one does not have respect for the Garda force one has respect for nothing. Its members get up in the morning and put themselves in harm's way to protect individuals and society. It is clear from reading between the lines of the Minister of State's speech that he is attacking the members of the Garda...

Non-Use of Motor Vehicles Bill 2013: Second Stage (24 Apr 2013)

Michael Healy-Rae: While I am a Member of this great House I will stand up for the rank and file members of the Garda Síochána on every occasion because the Minister for Justice and Equality certainly will not defend them. In his contribution the Minister of State said that many people take a holiday from paying motor tax. Either the Minister of State or the person who wrote his speech should go...

Public Sector Pay and Conditions: Motion [Private Members] (23 Apr 2013)

Michael Healy-Rae: I thank the Fianna Fáil Party for allowing me some of its speaking time. This is a difficult and traumatic time to try to negotiate an agreement that will be acceptable to all. Last Saturday I met with retired psychiatric nurses who outlined for me their position and what they feel about what has happened. We can only squeeze so much out of people. As the Minister knows, I respect...

Michael Healy-Rae: Will the Government help to fund the transportation of fodder, including hay, from England to help feed the animals that are starving here today? This is a crisis.

Order of Business (23 Apr 2013)

Michael Healy-Rae: I am asking this in light of the existence of the strategic infrastructure committee whose job is to deal with disasters. This is as big a disaster as the Taoiseach will ever preside over. Last year, it was seen fit to stop the ferry serving Dursey Island from ferrying animals over and back.

Order of Business (23 Apr 2013)

Michael Healy-Rae: No; it is not. I will explain and then I will finish. The cable car for carrying animals over and back was to be replaced with a ferry, which has now been removed. The Minister for Social Protection, Deputy Burton, should note it is not a laughing matter. There is nothing to smile about. If she had animals on Dursey Island, she would like to see some infrastructure in place to take them...
