Marc Ó Cathasaigh: It strikes me that beneath it all Deputy Ó Cuív is a closet romantic in putting forward this Bill. There is something romantic in the idea of these artefacts travelling down through history to us. While Schrödinger's cat would long since be dead if it was in a safe deposit box, Schrödinger's artefact excites the imagination when we think what could be inside the boxes....

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: It feels to me it probably falls to culture. I do not think we are chasing these safe deposit boxes for the amount of cash in them for the benefit of the State. It is more for the cultural history.

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: There would be a headache. The difference between the face value and conversion value would cause problems if somebody came calling. With the Dormant Accounts Fund, somebody might come calling and it is cash in, cash out and it is the exact value, but getting into the business of selling X number of coins through whatever market could cause problems. I want to ask Ms Mahony about that issue...
