- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Youth Services (2 Jun 2022)
James O'Connor: I will certainly relay that fabulous information to Deputy Niamh Smyth, who has been a keen supporter of the work undertaken in her constituency by youth organisations. Covid-19 has done a lot of damage to the growth and development of younger people. It has made it hard for people who are doing voluntary work with organisations like Foróige to get them back up and running and...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Youth Services (2 Jun 2022)
James O'Connor: I was delighted to have the Minister speak on a digital call with groups in my constituency recently. He made a point about funding being devolved through the Department to different organisations, including education and training boards. I often find that those organisations have their own agenda. Sometimes, geographical areas are left out. Unfortunately, Youghal, which is a town I am...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Youth Services (2 Jun 2022)
James O'Connor: I thank the Minister for being here. I am substituting for Deputy Niamh Smith. Will it be possible to get an outline of Government funding towards Foróige clubs that are supported by the Minister's Department, with regard to support provided for Cavan and Monaghan and indeed, nationally?
- Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (2 Jun 2022) James O'Connor: I welcome the fact that representatives from the Department are before us. My questions focus, in particular, on issues facing children who are in very difficult and challenging circumstances. Something I have worked on closely is foster care. I have found the level of support available to parents who take the decision to become foster parents very disturbing. Sometimes the coverage in...

- Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (2 Jun 2022) James O'Connor: It is very hard for me as a public representative to try and stand over that level of money having to go back into the Exchequer as it is not being spent on really deserving projects around the country. It is an area into which we could have put investment, and I think there was a lost opportunity there. I welcome Mr. McCarthy's comments about work that is being undertaken by State...
- Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (2 Jun 2022) James O'Connor: I will elaborate my point. I come from Youghal. That is one of the areas I, as a Deputy, represent. I do not mean to be parochial but I want to use it as a good example. We find it very challenging to get funding down from the ETB to support programmes that are put in place through Departmental funding. Cork is a huge county. There is a city and county with a very large geographical...

- Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (2 Jun 2022) James O'Connor: I promise I will keep this brief. The payment for foster carer's allowance has not changed since 2009. In that time, there have been changes in everything from fuel allowance to social welfare payments. The Government provides a great many levels of support through the Department of Social Protection but the one payment that has not changed, as Mr. McCarthy outlined, has been this...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays at Dublin Airport: Discussion (1 Jun 2022)
James O'Connor: Of course, Chairman. First and foremost, I welcome the representatives of the DAA before the committee today. What happened over the course of the weekend is profoundly regrettable and has done remarkable damage to the organisation and to the State. It is important that this committee would ask a number of key questions regarding the operational failures at Dublin Airport over the weekend....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays at Dublin Airport: Discussion (1 Jun 2022)

Mr. Philips outlined in his opening statement that the DAA was losing approximately €1 million each day. What was the DAA in receipt of when it came to those types of financial supports?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays at Dublin Airport: Discussion (1 Jun 2022)
James O'Connor: Obviously the DAA was in receipt of the employment wage subsidy scheme, EWSS. Why was it not used to retain security staff?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays at Dublin Airport: Discussion (1 Jun 2022)
James O'Connor: No, that is not the question I asked. I am sorry, but I have really limited time. Why was the EWSS the DAA got, like so many other businesses, not used to retain critical staff, in particular the staff members in question, who take a significant amount of time to get trained for their positions?
