Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2024
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(16 Oct 2024)

John Lahart: A note on that would be worth getting. My final question is one concerning what may be the smallest sum in the Supplementary Estimate, namely, the dormant account funding of €2 million. I am interested in why the Dormant Accounts Fund was raided and for what purpose. I am being dramatic in using the word "raided". Does the Minister have a note on the specific uses of that funding?

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Traffic Management (16 Oct 2024)

John Lahart: I made the point that we can do both. The Minister mentioned leadership, which is why I raised this issue with him today. I would like him to write to South Dublin County Council to initiate a task force involving not only the council and the NTA, but also local community stakeholders, such as schools and businesses. These roads are not half as congested when schools are not open. We need...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Traffic Management (16 Oct 2024)

John Lahart: I thank the senior Minister, Deputy Eamon Ryan, for coming to the Chamber for this Topical Issue. I appreciate it. As he will be aware, I live alongside the M50 in Scholarstown. When I hear the sirens of emergency vehicles early in the morning travelling along the motorway, I know there is going to be traffic chaos, as there has been an accident. The traffic chaos will stretch out into...

John Lahart: 127. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills further to a previous Parliamentary Question, whether or not the board of management of a school (details supplied) has ever approached her Department with a view to expanding the school capacity, in light of the over-subscription of the school over many years; if she is minded to explore such options with the school’s board of...

World Mental Health Day: Statements (10 Oct 2024)

John Lahart: Deputy Kenny and I were councillors on South Dublin County Council at the same time. While the mental health of politicians is not more important than any other profession in life, a section of the people who impact the mental health of politicians are other politicians. Something we should bear in mind is the low levels politicians stoop to and the level of personalised attack. The...

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (10 Oct 2024)

John Lahart: I add my voice to those saying any firing by the Israel Defense Forces on UNIFIL positions or facilities is an incendiary and reckless move. I absolutely support the stopping of that and a strong response. Extra examination time is already the standard in many European countries for students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties, but in Ireland, students with dyslexia receive...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Children’s Hospital: Discussion (9 Oct 2024)

John Lahart: The cost ran to €25 million, or millions of euro anyway, and was going to delay the contract by months, which was the evidence given to us. To conclude matters in respect of that piece of the jigsaw, what did it cost?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Children’s Hospital: Discussion (9 Oct 2024)
