- Shane Curley: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Taoiseach as an ról a thug sé dom bheith mar urlabhraí ar an nGaeilge sa Seanad. I am really proud that the Taoiseach nominated me to be our party spokesperson on education in this Seanad. Donogh O'Malley's revolutionary decision to allow free second level education in 1966 opened up the doors for my parents to go to secondary school in Loughrea....

The students, who were going into fifth year the following year, made submissions....

- Shane Curley: Brilliant. That is perfect. That clarifies that. That is very positive. The draft specification is still on the council’s website and students still believe they are going to do an exam that includes a 35% oral component, which is a reduction by comparison with what previously existed. I am happy with the answer. In the mid-1990s, a neighbour of mine headed up a subject...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Curriculum Reform at Senior Cycle: Discussion (16 Oct 2025)
- Shane Curley: No, I appreciate that but I will leave it for now. I would exercise caution when putting subject development groups together. There is money involved. I do not know whether the Irish one is going back to square one. Is it any wonder that students grow to dislike Irish when we send a message out that we are going to reduce the marks for the oral exam, increase the marks for the written...
