Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (7 Nov 2024)

Martin Conway: I, too, salute Senator Ahearn, the Acting Chairman, on what is a nice, well deserved day for him. I echo the remarks of those who thanked all the staff and Members across the House. It is only the people you become friends with. I would consider myself to be a friend of probably everybody here in one way or another. Everyone who is here is here because they are motivated by public...

Martin Conway: I welcome the Minister of State and the officials. He has only been in the role since 10 April but, to be fair, he has an excellent handle on the portfolio. The granular detail he has at his fingertips is quite impressive. We all know that on Saturday nights in our cities and towns throughout the country cocaine is freely available. An audit has been done on the six new regional health...

How does it audit how successful the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Local Drug and Alcohol Task Forces: Discussion (6 Nov 2024)

Martin Conway: The Department was represented at Electric Picnic. Having a stand at Electric Picnic is nearly too late. We really need to infiltrate their thinking and come up with prevention mechanisms before people go to events like Electric Picnic. What is the Department doing to get to them before they go to these concerts?

Martin Conway: It should come under the Department of Health.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Local Drug and Alcohol Task Forces: Discussion (6 Nov 2024)

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (5 Nov 2024)

Martin Conway: I echo those comments to the team in the Seanad Office and the wider Houses of the Oireachtas. I agree with Family Carers Ireland’s proposal. We need to move away from a means test quickly. If someone is doing a job that saves the State a fortune, he or she should be paid for it and there should not be a means test. I would like to think that the body politic is moving towards...
