- Seanad: Bretton Woods Agreements (Amendment)(No. 2) Bill 2011: Second Stage (14 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I have no wish to in any way embarrass the Minister of State. That was not my intention.
- Seanad: Bretton Woods Agreements (Amendment)(No. 2) Bill 2011: Second Stage (14 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I thank the Leas-Chathaoirleach. Over the past five years the IMF has had an ambitious programme of reform. As the Minister of State correctly pointed out, this is the latest in a series of reform mechanisms. The previous Administration introduced similar legislation at the beginning of the process in 2010. The executive board will be reduced to 20 members from 24 and they will be elected....
- Seanad: Bretton Woods Agreements (Amendment)(No. 2) Bill 2011: Second Stage (14 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: One or two of them have.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I support the proposal of my constituency colleague, Senator Susan O'Keeffe, in regard to hydraulic fracturing. It is now becoming apparent that not only is there uncertainty and confusion surrounding the licensing process for this new technology, which involves extracting gas from underground rock, but the current regulatory environment, not only as it applies to this country but also...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: Perhaps it might be shared with the Opposition.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I am sure that will happen also.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: No, a Chathaoirligh, being in opposition, Members are delighted with the information provided.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: This is wonderful news. The Senator should tell Members more.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: Tell us more.
- Seanad: Food Wastage: Motion (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: The Senator is using up my time.
- Seanad: Food Wastage: Motion (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: Senator Conway could have made it at the beginning of his statement.
- Seanad: Food Wastage: Motion (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: Senator Conway's apology is graciously accepted. I say that with my tongue firmly in my cheek, by the way.
- Seanad: Food Wastage: Motion (15 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I hope Senator Conway understands the banter in the House. I am simply concerned about the few minutes that are left. I meant no reflection on his contribution which was excellent, as always. Media reports suggest that the Minister for Health, Deputy James Reilly, intends to introduce legislation on calorie counting on labelling. While this is not within the mandate of the Minister, Deputy...
- Seanad: Order of Business (16 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I support Senators Cullinane and Sheahan in respect of what they each said. I suspect the Government is somewhat embarrassed with regard to this charge and is, therefore, not going to go out of its way to oblige people to pay it. The introduction of the household charge has had unintended consequences, particularly in the context of the tourism industry. In my constituency, where tourism...
- Seanad: Order of Business (16 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I thank the Leader.
- Seanad: EU Fiscal Compact Treaty: Statements, Questions and Answers (Resumed) (16 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: That was a multilateral decision. The Government takes credit for it but it was a multilateral decision.
- Seanad: EU Fiscal Compact Treaty: Statements, Questions and Answers (Resumed) (16 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: The Minister of State has been making allegations when she does not know what she is talking about. She has been telling lies and accusing Fianna Fáil of disengagement from the European Council.
- Seanad: EU Fiscal Compact Treaty: Statements, Questions and Answers (Resumed) (16 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: The Minister of State has repeated in my presence a lie that Fianna Fáil disengaged from European Council meetings, when the evidence from the University of Gothenburg - I have a copy of it here - shows that our attendance record put us in fifth place out of 27 member states. Why does she repeat this? She said Fianna Fáil disengaged from Europe when the evidence shows our attendance...
- Seanad: EU Fiscal Compact Treaty: Statements, Questions and Answers (Resumed) (16 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I will give the Minister of State credit when she warrants it. Why does she keep repeating an untruth?
- Seanad: EU Fiscal Compact Treaty: Statements, Questions and Answers (Resumed) (16 Feb 2012)
Paschal Mooney: I said the Minister of State repeated an untruth. If I said the word "lie" I withdraw that unreservedly. I have no wish to impugn the integrity of the Minister of State. She made a political point and I am attempting to reply to a political point. I think the Minister of State can see that as being legitimate.
