Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Assessment Report: Irish Fiscal Advisory Council (22 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: What actions would Professor McMahon prioritise?

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Assessment Report: Irish Fiscal Advisory Council (22 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I am sorry to come back in again. The opening statement warns of overheating the economy and the risk of inflation. Maybe this question has been asked, and I apologise if it has. It seems as though most of the recent commentary is on how inflation is slowing. What are the representatives' views on the inflation outlook?

Nursing Home Care: Motion [Private Members] (27 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: As Sinn Féin’s spokesperson for older people, I am proud to commend the motion to the House. Unfortunately, due to the Government’s inaction, the motion is urgently needed to address an issue that poses a threat to the dignity and well-being of our elderly, namely the alarming surge in nursing home closures across the State. Since 2020 we have seen the closure of 34...

Nursing Home Care: Motion [Private Members] (27 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: The Minister has not read it all.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Public Service Performance Report 2022 (28 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I thank the witnesses. I will come from a different angle. My brief is older people. According to page 19 of the report the target for delivery of intensive home care packages was missed by an incredible 66%. Only 80 of the targeted 235 home care packages were delivered. Will the witnesses advise me on what needs to be done and what measures the Government needs to take to ensure these...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Public Service Performance Report 2022 (28 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: It is certainly not doing well. That is my opinion from reading this. I was quite shocked to see the targets being missed by 66%. I also see in the report that almost 40% of the targeted number of home support hours in 2022 went undelivered. What measures must the Government take? I suppose the witnesses will tell me we need to go back to the Department of Health on this also.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Public Service Performance Report 2022 (28 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: Has Dr. Moran come across targets being wrong?

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Public Service Performance Report 2022 (28 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I would like an explanation for the 75% failure to meet set targets for the movement of those with disabilities in congregated residential care settings to community-based settings, and to know what measures would the Government need to take to bring Ireland in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Public Service Performance Report 2022 (28 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I know, yes.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Public Service Performance Report 2022 (28 Jun 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I thank the witnesses very much for highlighting it. It is very interesting for us as members of the committee to see this. It makes me wonder whether we are asking the right questions of the right people. I very much thank the witnesses. Earlier we spoke about equality budgeting. How are the equality indicators chosen?

Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Work Permits (28 Jun 2023)

To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport what assistance measures he can put in place, or what measures he would consider, to assist bus companies (details supplied) with the high costs of applications for work permits for drivers, having had to source them from outside this jurisdiction; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31500/23]

[31498/23]

To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if, with regard to the vacant property refurbishment grant, he can clarify how people who wish to apply for the grant but cannot get a mortgage on the vacant property concerned due to its not being 'habitable' (i.e. no working kitchen) will be able to avail of the grant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31501/23]

Nature Restoration Law: Motion [Private Members] (5 Jul 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I welcome the opportunity to speak on the motion on the EU restoration law. It is our collective responsibility to safeguard protected areas and to nurture biodiversity, as without it, farming is not possible. However, the balance between preserving our natural world and ensuring the livelihoods of our farmers remain uncompromised is critical. They have, after all, been on the front line...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Sovereign Wealth Funds: Discussion (Resumed) (5 Jul 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I thank our guests for being here. Given that pensions make up the largest portion of age-related costs, could any action be envisaged such that corporation taxes on profits made by the domestic banks that were recapitalised at the expense of the National Pensions Reserve Fund be paid directly into a purpose-built, ring-fenced pension reserve fund and, instead of exempting those same banks'...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Sovereign Wealth Funds: Discussion (Resumed) (5 Jul 2023)

Patricia Ryan: In view of the current spate of mortgage interest rate increases, will the profits be made by the banks and the financial institutions as a result of those rate increases be viewed as windfall profits for the purpose of being considered as eligible for the fund?
