Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Report on Local Public Banking: Discussion (23 Oct 2018)

John McGuinness: SME businesses have told me that they find it impossible to get funding and often the only route open to them is the likes of group funding. I mean people who would come together, make available a sum of money and they test one out then in terms of one's business plan. That loan is then offered at a huge interest rate. That situation is damaging the economy and an SME sector that employs...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Report on Local Public Banking: Discussion (23 Oct 2018)

John McGuinness: And at a higher interest rate. If one goes to the bank now, if one has ever had any sort of blip in one's credit position one will not get money anywhere except on a market where one is paying massive interest rates. That is why the concept of a community bank or a credit union to examine a local application, or an application from a local business or whatever it might be, is hugely...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Report on Local Public Banking: Discussion (23 Oct 2018)
