Jerry Buttimer: I welcome the clarification and the changes to the redeemability of gift vouchers, and that the same conditions will be given to the recipient and the purchaser. The Minister of State made clear the need for replacement vouchers. Gift vouchers should never have an expiry date and should last forever. I welcome the Minister of State's changes and congratulate him and the Department on the...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (13 Nov 2019)

Jerry Buttimer: I thank the 16 Members of the House for their contributions on the Order of Business. The issue of Dublin City Council was raised by Senators Ardagh, Boyhan, McDowell and Humphreys. I will facilitate a debate on the future of local government and its importance at the earliest convenience with regard to the Minister being available. A lot of misinformation has been spread about Dublin City...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (13 Nov 2019)

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (13 Nov 2019)

Jerry Buttimer: That is the fundamental point. If we give financial powers to local authorities and members, then let them have responsibility. Let us be fair. Senator Marie-Louise O'Donnell made the very good point that because of the gross mismanagement of the country by the banks and the Fianna Fáil-led Government, we are all paying USC. That is a tax imposed by those people over there on all of us.
