- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Annual Report 2013: Bord Iascaigh Mhara (24 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: If a company receives grant aid of "X" amount to support eight jobs, there is no requirement on that company to create eight jobs. The grant aid is not linked to the creation of those jobs. This looks nice in an announcement and it is great for a politician to be able to announce jobs, but there is no requirement for these jobs to be created or for them to materialise on the completion of...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Annual Report 2013: Bord Iascaigh Mhara (24 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: I wish to make two quick points. Mr. Buckley referred to LYIT in Killybegs and the engagement with the pelagic sector. What has the level of engagement been? Are there projects in the pipeline or are people actively looking at projects in that regard? In terms of the €12 million expenditure on the FLAG scheme, is the funding from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, EMFF, or...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Annual Report 2013: Bord Iascaigh Mhara (24 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: When an announcement is made for the processing sector the announcement says it is worth €500,000 but the grant aid is €125,000.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Annual Report 2013: Bord Iascaigh Mhara (24 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: Yes. I wanted to make sure that the €12 million would leverage €20 million because what we get is an announcement of €500,000 but the grant aid is only €125,000.
- Water Charges: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (25 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: We sent them out last night.
- Water Charges: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (25 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: I will paraphrase Martin Luther King when he said that if a law is unjust then citizens have a duty to oppose it. That is the case with the imposition of water taxes on the citizens of Ireland. It is not only that the tax is unjust per se, in that it is a double taxation, but it is also the view held by very many of the protesters that the policies pursued by the Government are also unjust....

- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Job Creation (26 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: 3. To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation his response to the Nevin Economic Research Institute's recent report that 94% of the 29,000 new jobs created in 2014 were in the eastern part of the country, while full-time equivalent jobs declined in the Border counties; his plans to counteract the decline of jobs growth in counties such as Donegal before it becomes an established...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Job Creation (26 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: This question arises from the recent report by the Nevin Economic Research Institute on the regional imbalance in job creation, which highlighted, in particular, that more than 90% of new jobs in 2014 were created in the Dublin and mid-east regions. What is the Minister's policy to address that imbalance?
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Job Creation (26 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: The Minister's officials in response to the Nevin institute report said 70% of net job creation was in the Dublin and mid-east regions. Statistics have been tweaked to make them look good but job creation in these two regions far exceeds every other region. The figure for the Border region is skewed by the fact that County Louth is included in it. The situation is much worse than it...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Job Creation (26 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: The Minister is saying his Department was wrong in its response to the Nevin institute report by saying there was a 70% net increase in job creation in the Dublin and mid-east regions. We have three sets of figures for regional job creation.
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Job Creation (26 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: When will see the true figures and what they truly reflect? The emigration rate is still high in the north west and job creation is not happening. That regional imbalance has to be addressed. Unfortunately, there is nothing in these figures or in what the Minister said that will address that.
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Job Creation (26 Mar 2015)
Thomas Pringle: From a low base.

[12080/15]
