[28135/23]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Public Participation Networks (13 Jun 2023)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: This is a timely enough question considering we will be discussing Our Rural Future tomorrow. It arises from one of the commitments in appendix 1 of that document, namely, to conduct a review of the public participation networks, PPNs. I want to get a sense from the Minister of State of where that work is at in the Department at the minute and where we plan to go from here to strengthen a...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Public Participation Networks (13 Jun 2023)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: I thank the Minister of State for his response. The pivotal piece is one of the first things he said, namely, giving local groups a say in local government decisions that affect their communities. I am not convinced that is what we actually see with our PPNs. I am aware the Minister of State is absolutely steeped in this sector. I imagine most of us in the House this evening have had some...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Public Participation Networks (13 Jun 2023)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: I thank the Minister of State. If I sounded cynical in my first contribution, I am not. Community action is where it is at. National politics can feel very distant from people and individual action feels like you are getting lost. In their community, people can make a difference and they can feel that difference. It seems to me, looking at the challenges we face with climate,...

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021 - Sport Ireland and Sport Ireland Facilities DAC (15 Jun 2023)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: I thank Dr. May for her presentation this morning. A lot of discussion has centred around governance, and Dr. May has outlined that there is tension between that development role and the governance role. I think it only makes sense for the person who is paying over the money to have a responsibility in terms of oversight on how that money is spent. I will return, maybe, to some of those...

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021 - Sport Ireland and Sport Ireland Facilities DAC (15 Jun 2023)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: They are back on their feet?

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021 - Sport Ireland and Sport Ireland Facilities DAC (15 Jun 2023)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: That is good news. I wanted to return to Cycling Ireland which I know was briefly dealt with. An internal audit was commissioned by Sport Ireland around some of the issues of the false comparative quotations. Did the audit produce recommendations? If it did, where do we stand in relation to those recommendations?

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021 - Sport Ireland and Sport Ireland Facilities DAC (15 Jun 2023)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: This may be slightly tangential. Women in sport is a large part of Dr. May's role as well. Did any of those recommendations deal with the women in sport aspect as it relates to Cycling Ireland? I know for example, that there is quite a disparity in funding between the men's race and Rás na mBan. Did any of the recommendations in the report address that disparity?
