When does he believe there will be an appropriate and approved Department equine slaughter facility available in Ireland? In the absence of such a facility, what additional safeguards, if any, have been put in place regarding equine transportation for slaughter?

Joe Flaherty: Specifically the forestry programme. It was a blue chip launch for the Department. It is clearly not garnering momentum and there are issues with it. At some stage, one will have to say it is not working.
