Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Implementation of Sláintecare: Discussion (6 Oct 2021)

Róisín Shortall: But, clearly, patients are on the front line and are experiencing the sharp end of a healthcare system that cannot cater for need if someone is a public patient and where people are forced to fork out for expensive health insurance. Surely the patient's voice and the public's voice should be heard but the Minister has made no provision for that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Implementation of Sláintecare: Discussion (6 Oct 2021)

Róisín Shortall: That is an extraordinary oversight given the scale of the challenges facing the health service. Regarding elective-only hospitals, this was a clear recommendation of the Sláintecare group. We had learned from the experience in Scotland where the Scottish Government took over one private hospital and was building a second to be elective-only hospitals so that we could make quick...

Róisín Shortall: Okay.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Implementation of Sláintecare: Discussion (6 Oct 2021)

Róisín Shortall: The intention was that group would report to the Taoiseach's office. We are back again to that mistake that was made in locating Sláintecare in the Department of Health. If the Minister had followed the recommendation from the all-party committee, we would not be in this position.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Implementation of Sláintecare: Discussion (6 Oct 2021)

Róisín Shortall: Nobody is suggesting that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Implementation of Sláintecare: Discussion (6 Oct 2021)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Implementation of Sláintecare: Discussion (6 Oct 2021)

Róisín Shortall: It is not transparent. That is the problem with it.

Financial Resolutions 2021 - Budget Statement 2022 (12 Oct 2021)

Róisín Shortall: It is regrettable that not a single Cabinet Minister is present in the Chamber for the debate. Apart from being disrespectful, it is a disgrace that nobody had the time to participate in the debate and to come in here and listen to what those of us on this side of the House have to say about the budget. It is wrong. The budget has been billed as an effort by the Government to tackle the...
