- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Architects of the Good Friday Agreement (Resumed): Mr. John Bruton (8 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: Our calls for a border poll are being made on a regular basis. It seems to be almost ignored here that we are also calling constantly for preparation for unity. Those talks need to happen. As Mr. Brady said, it is happening constantly on the ground among people in the North who are ahead of the political parties. The Government needs to start working on preparing for that poll.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy and Assistive Technology: Ms Carmel Ryan and Mr. Fiacre Ryan (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: Talking to the manager of the local children's disability network team, CDNT, she said there are many children with suspected autism waiting to be assessed. Many of them are non-verbal. There needs to be a change to the methods of assessment. Autistic children are very intelligent young people. They need supports to be the best version of themselves, to be able to progress. Is the...

Pauline Tully: Is that available here? Is it available to a large number of children?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy and Assistive Technology: Ms Carmel Ryan and Mr. Fiacre Ryan (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: Absolutely.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy and Assistive Technology: Ms Carmel Ryan and Mr. Fiacre Ryan (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: That is good to hear. I thank Ms Ryan.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy and Assistive Technology: Ms Carmel Ryan and Mr. Fiacre Ryan (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: I want to raise the issue of the technology that Fiacre or another student used in primary school and how it does not follow them into secondary school. If it is being provided by the Department, it should. Maybe if it was a case where the SENO has been awkward, the Department has not supported it and the school has purchased it themselves, then the school will lay claim to it, which should...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy and Assistive Technology: Ms Carmel Ryan and Mr. Fiacre Ryan (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: It should not. It is my understanding that the Department has given it to the student. I know of instances where it has come with the student, which is right. That is the way it should be.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy and Employment: Discussion (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: I welcome the witnesses. I welcome what Mr. Joyce indicated in his opening statement about how many of the unions in his organisation were displaying more awareness of autism and addressing it. Sometimes, ignorance breeds fear. Mr. Joyce spoke about passport systems. Will he expand on that point? At our earlier session, we discussed assistive technology and how it should follow a child...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy and Assistive Technology: Ms Carmel Ryan and Mr. Fiacre Ryan (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: I am delighted that the witnesses are here to give their evidence to us. As the Chair says, they are an inspiration to many people. Many young people and their parents feel it is a constant battle to get the resources and supports that they need. I have a couple of questions. Firstly, I will say that it is outrageous for any child to be made to feel stupid. I come from an educational...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Architects of the Good Friday Agreement (Resumed): Mr. Gerry Adams (15 Dec 2022)
Pauline Tully: I commend Mr. Adams on his presentation and on his decades of work to achieve peace. It is a peace that has lasted and brought untold fortune to Irish people and British people alike. We remember our friend and comrade Martin McGuinness who walked that journey with Mr. Adams. I will start with a question. Mr. Adams included a quote from Martin McGuinness in his presentation, “I am...
- Climate Action Plan 2023: Statements (18 Jan 2023)
Pauline Tully: Sinn Féin supports the objective of cutting emissions but it is clear that the Government's approach is not working and that new ideas and climate action policies are needed. The current proposals are inequitable. Much of the Government's climate action plan puts a burden on ordinary workers and families, particularly family farmers and rural communities. Those living in rural Ireland...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters: UNCRPD and the Optional Protocol (Resumed): Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (19 Jan 2023)
Pauline Tully: I will follow up on the optional protocol also because it comes up in the committee regularly and is an issue of concern for it. The Minister mentioned the phrase "[until] the obligations set out in it can be complied with". Are we ever going to be in a position where we will be fully compliant with the UNCRPD? The UNCRPD is an international agreement into which we entered, but we are not...
