Written Answers — Community Development: Community Development (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: As indicated to the House in earlier replies to this topic, the cohesion process aims to streamline the way in which local, community and rural development programmes are delivered on behalf of the Department. The group referred to by the Deputy delivers rural development programmes on behalf of Western Rural Development Company in parts of North Mayo and West Sligo. I have expressed the...

Written Answers — Ceist Phleanáta: Ceist Phleanáta (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: Bíonn iarrachtaí leanúnacha ar siúl ag Údarás na Gaeltachta chun tograí a chuirfidh fostaíocht fhiúntach ar fáil a mhealladh chuig gach uile chuid den Ghaeltacht, ceantar Chill Charthaigh ina measc. Maidir le hionaid ghlaonna, is mithid a lua go raibh toradh dearfach ar obair an Údaráis sa réimse seo le blianta beaga anuas agus gur éirigh leis tionscnaimh le fostaíocht...

Seanad: Official Languages Act 2003: Statements (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: Glacaim buíochas leis an Teach seo as ucht deis a thabhairt dom cúpla focal a rá maidir le cúrsaí logainmneacha. Tá córas comhuaineach aistriúcháin ar fáil sa Teach, agus, mar sin, tá sé i gceist agam mo chéad ráiteas a dhéanamh i nGaeilge, ach freagróidh mé ceisteanna sa teanga ina dtógfar iad ag an deireadh. Tá sé thar a bheith tábhachtach go bhfuil an díospóireacht...

Seanad: Official Languages Act 2003: Statements (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: Ba mhaith liom glacadh leis an deis seo chun na fíricí a bhaineann le cás An Daingin a chur ar thaifead an Tí seo. Tá breis is 2,300 logainm clúdaithe faoin Ordú Logainmneacha (Ceantair Gaeltachta) 2004, agus, go bhfios dom, níl fadhb ná deacracht léirithe ach i gcás amháin, agus mar is eol don tír ar fad faoin tráth seo, is dócha, is é sin An Daingean i nGaeltacht Chiarraí....

Éamon Ó Cuív: Mar ainm amháin.

Seanad: Official Languages Act 2003: Statements (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: No.

Seanad: Official Languages Act 2003: Statements (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: Mar eolas dom féin, bheadh sé ina chuidiú dá mbeadh sé seo pléite. Is é an bhrí a bhaineann an Seanadóir as an vótáil ná go bhfuileadar ag iarraidh go mbeadh ainm nua amháin ar an mbaile, "Dingle Daingean Uí Chúis", agus gurbh é sin amháin a bheadh oifigiúil. B'shin an bhrí a bhain an Seanadóir as an bpobalbhreith. Muna bhfuilimid soiléir cé air a vótáil siad, beidh...

Seanad: Official Languages Act 2003: Statements (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: I can do that.

Seanad: Official Languages Act 2003: Statements (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: Ní féidir linn aisghairm a dhéanamh.

Seanad: Official Languages Act 2003: Statements (1 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: I thank Senators for their contributions to this thoughtful debate. I will address my comments to Senator Quinn. Last week, Ministers from Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey had a most interesting discussion at the British-Irish Council. It was amazing to learn how similar are the circumstances prevailing in the various jurisdictions. Scotland, for instance,...

Written Answers — Harbours and Piers: Harbours and Piers (2 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: As explained to the Deputy in previous replies, a report carried out for my Department in 2005 by the consultants Malachy Walsh and Partners, in conjunction with McClure Watters, concluded, inter alia, that the development over the last number of years of new piers, both on the island in question and at an adjacent mainland location, had satisfied a key Departmental objective to provide safe...

Written Answers — Harbours and Piers: Harbours and Piers (2 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: My Department does not have any application for funding for the pier referred to by the Deputy from either Mayo County Council or from the local community. If any such application is received, it will be assessed in accordance with the standard criteria under my Department's scheme for the development of small piers and harbours in the Gaeltacht.

Written Answers — Harbours and Piers: Harbours and Piers (2 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: The pier in question is not situated within the Gaeltacht and therefore is not eligible for funding under my Department's scheme for the development of small piers in Gaeltacht areas. Dependent on the CLÁR piers measure being run again in 2007 this pier may be be eligible for funding under that scheme. To apply for this the people involved should contact the local authority.

Ag eascairt ón obair seo, fuarthas cead pleanála don fhorbairt ó Chomhairle Chontae Dhún na nGall i 2004. I láthair na huaire, tá comhráití ar bun idir oifigigh mo Roinne agus Comhairle Chontae Dhún na nGall maidir le hOrduithe Ceannacháin...

Written Answers — Official Languages Act: Official Languages Act (2 Nov 2006)

Éamon Ó Cuív: Ní thagann síneacha tráchta faoi Act na dTeangacha Oifigiúla agus mar sin tuigfidh an Teachta gur cúram é seo a bhaineann leis na húdaráis áitiúla féin agus nach bhfuil aon fhreagracht ormsa mar Aire i ndáil leis na húdaráis sin.
