- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: In fairness, Chair, it is one of the ideas I floated here, that maybe this committee should go out to Europe and talk to MEPs. I know we cannot make a decision here today but it is something that needs to be put on the agenda. This is far too important. We cannot stand back. What has happened for the last 20 years is that the Irish stood back and everybody else took our fish. Now, our...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: Even I, looking in, know that they got access to 190,000 tonnes and we got 10,000 tonnes. I do not know what genius we had out working for us but it is a sad indictment of the people we have working for us in Europe if that is what we get. The least I would have expected was, maybe, 50,000 to 80,000 tonnes but we came back from Europe with the crumbs from the table once again. Europe has a...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I thank the Minister of State for coming to Killybegs. When he visited he saw the real hurt and the anger that is on people's faces and in their voices. We have been sold out with so many bad deals over the past 20 years. It is unreal how one country could be made to suffer when other countries are just ploughing ahead and doing what they want. It is something that needs to be addressed....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: In fairness, Deputy Mac Lochlainn has covered some of the issues. He is completely right. The Minister of State spoke earlier about jobs. Regarding my job in Killybegs, even getting men to do anything is difficult because nobody can stay given the way we have been cut year after year. It is driving young people away. We will reach a stage where it will not be possible to get anyone to...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I raise the urgent issue of a boil water notice that has been in operation since 15 September in the Glenties-Ardara area. Uisce Éireann has assured me and the public that everything has been done to get this boil water notice out. The reality is 3,500 residents, as well as businesses, have to endure daily disruption. Families have to boil water for drinking, brushing teeth and food...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I have one final point. I know the time is running out. People at home are listening. It happened a couple of years ago, but who signed off on the blue whiting that Ireland and Norway got? Was it two years ago on St. Patrick's Day? Was it the Irish Government that signed off on that or was it the European government? There are conflicting stories here and I would like the people at home...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Treatment of Rare Diseases: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I thank the witnesses for coming in today. To be honest, this is totally new to me and makes hard listening. My fellow Senator who is not here today, Senator Teresa Costello, drew my attention to the situation with givinostat. On one of the first days I came here, Senator Costello had people in the audiovisual room where I met two lovely young fellas from Donegal from my own area. I...

Manus Boyle: The issue is personal to me.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Treatment of Rare Diseases: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: As my fellow members of this committee said earlier, it should not be down to politicians to come in here to push for a drug for a child. I believe that the system is wrong. We should have a system whereby if a doctor recommends a person gets a drug that politicians are taken out of the equation. I know no more about givinostat than the professor would know about fishing or anything like...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Treatment of Rare Diseases: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: When a medical person like Professor Postma or a consultant recommends that a child or adult should get a drug, then the political end should be removed. It seems to me that it is all down to political pressure and the more political pressure applied, the greater chance - perhaps - of living.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Treatment of Rare Diseases: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: Earlier we talked about the early access scheme. We, as a committee, should push really hard for an early access scheme. I say that because of the experience of my cousin, who has now passed on. He was in America and the medical profession did everything they could for him when he was ill. He told me himself that he participated in clinical trials. He received this, that and the other,...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Treatment of Rare Diseases: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: We, as a committee, to help the organisations present, should work on securing an early access scheme too. Nobody wants to suffer in pain so the easier we can make anybody's life then the better and that is what we are all here for.
