Vote 21 - Prisons
(17 Jan 2019)

Seán Fleming: It has been highlighted to us, as members, that information was being channelled relative to the prison officer affected. It was said the information was channelled by the governor to the Garda or liaison officer but it was not given down to the prison officer, which led to difficulty. I am not asking Ms McCaffrey to comment on the case. There is a command structure in regard to the flow...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (21 Sep 2017)

Seán Fleming: There has been so much talk about the number of Garda accounts. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the amount of accounts, but if some are dormant and tidying up is required then well and good. We will write back to An Garda Síochána for details, to ask it to review the accounts and decide if they are all necessary and, if not, to close them down. We are not going...

Protected Disclosures Bill 2013 [Seanad]: Second Stage (4 Feb 2014)

The family wanted to make a complaint about the death of the family member in Garda custody to GSOC at that stage, but they were told by the gardaí that if they did so, the coroner would not be able to proceed with the inquest while an investigation was being carried under...

Public Sector Reform (11 Oct 2011)

Seán Fleming: ...and that is fair enough. Those who provide home help are not exempt and they cannot be recruited because of the moratorium. Will the Minister be able to do something if an inordinate number of gardaí wish to retire? Will the Minister and the Irish public be victims of a voluntary scheme with no management? No company would allow a situation whereby all staff could walk out the door if...
