- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: How long will that take? Will that go to public consultation as well?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: We have worked with the NTA on bus routes in the city over many years. There are two routes I want to ask about. We have had discussions with the NTA on them and we appreciate the interaction. There is an issue with the 303 bus route, of which the witnesses are probably aware. We have been onto it about the schools on Sexton Street, such as Presentation Primary School, and we have had...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: I welcome the increase in the services. Will these new rural routes come into being from 1 January?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: Ms Graham might come back to me on when she expects the increase in the services on the 314 route to six per day to occur. When doing the BusConnects plan, I ask that she consider including Mungret as part of the suburban link-up. I will come back to her on the 303 bus route. I have ongoing constructive engagement on that with the NTA's people in the area.

Kieran O'Donnell: I can give Mr. Walsh a minute but no more.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: It is something we might take up again. I thank Mr. Walsh, Mr. O'Neill, Ms Graham and Mr. Creegan for attending. We will continue to have further engagement with them.
- Road Traffic and Roads Bill 2021: Second Stage (Resumed) (11 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: I welcome the publication of this legislation. Along with my colleagues on the transport and communications committee, which I chair, I engaged in pre-legislative scrutiny of the Bill. We are very much involved in it. E-scooters were not included in the original draft where pre-legislative scrutiny was concerned. We covered the matter as best we could. We ask that, in order to have...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Housing Policy (11 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: I thank the Minister of State for attending this evening's debate. I have raised this matter previously. Ultimately, we need to build homes, but we also need to ensure the national density guidelines are in keeping with ensuring that we get sustainable development. The national density guidelines recommend between 35 and 50 units per hectare. In many cases they are well above that now....
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Housing Policy (11 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: I welcome the commitment from the Minister of State and that the review is under way. When will the review be complete? The Minister of State must write to local authorities, as from my perspective in Limerick, local authorities seem to be taking the view that if they give planning permissions in line with local area plans of the order of 35 units per hectare or less, it will be overturned...
- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (16 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: I will raise two related matters concerning Covid-19. There is a six-month interval between the second vaccination and the proposed booster. Has the Government considered asking the national immunisation advisory committee, NIAC, to see if the interval can be brought back to five months? It is officially six months but the committee indicated it will consider an interval of five months....
- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (16 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: I asked specifically about a five-month interval.

- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Facilities (18 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: University Hospital Limerick, UHL, caters for the medical needs of the entire mid-west, including my constituency of Limerick City. The region also has St. John's, Ennis and Nenagh hospitals, as well as Croom Orthopaedic Hospital, but UHL is the large cog in the system. On Tuesday, 16 November, 95 people were on trolleys there, which was the highest number since the Irish Medical...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Facilities (18 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: I acknowledge the 98 additional beds that have gone into UHL. Some 60 modular beds, for which I campaigned over a long period of time, are in place. However, that 60-bed ward is being used as a Covid unit. It is not being used for that which it was really intended, which was to relieve the existing pressures in UHL. We have 49 patients in UHL with Covid. That is in the top three in the...
- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (23 Nov 2021)
Kieran O'Donnell: I raise the matter of University Hospital Limerick, UHL. It currently has the highest trolley count in Ireland, with 58 patients on trolleys. It has 56 Covid patients. Thirteen Covid patients are in ICU and 30 patients have been in ICU for a long time. That is above the number of ICU beds in the hospital, of which there are 12. There are also high-dependency unit beds too, bringing the...
