- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: Everything in here is interesting.
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: The Government will bring forward a detailed list of assets for potential sale in the not too distant future. That is not say these assets will be hived off just like that. Any agreement from Government regarding the sale of a State asset will be properly considered and done at the appropriate time. Therefore, there will be no rush to legislation in this regard.
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: I expect that before mid-summer the Government will be in a position to present a list of assets that could be considered for potential sale.
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: I will be happy to discuss the issue with the Commissioner during our meeting. It is a matter of interest to a great number of people. I do not have a date for the Deputy in respect of any legislation but, following my meeting with the Commissioner, I will be happy to advise him as to how the landscape is looking. From my experiences in Kerry, its people have never been too far behind the...
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: This Chamber is the most open forum of all for debate. I will have that debate any time the Deputy likes, day or night. It makes no difference to me when I discuss the matter with the Deputy or his colleagues. The fiscal responsibility Bill and the ESM Bill will be taken in the House after the people make their decision in respect of the referendum. Far be it from me to determine in...
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: Yes, I would expect there to be proper and comprehensive discussion of it, including contributions from the Deputy. If the referendum is passed, we will move on and complete the ratification process without delay.
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: The Minister had no objection to the Private Members' Bill. Most of the details, or certainly elements of the Bill, were published on 24 April, as the Deputy is aware. The Central Bank (Supervision and Enforcement) Bill is awaiting Committee Stage. The amendments to the Regulation of Debt Management Advisors Bill 2011 can be discussed on Committee Stage and incorporated into it. I expect...
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: Is féidir liom a rá leis an Teachta go mbeidh an Bille faoin nGaeltacht tugtha isteach an seisiún seo. Caithfidh go dtabharfar isteach é go luath san seisiún seo. The health information Bill will be introduced later this year.
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: I can. The Deputy wants me to be more specific about the date of publication. The heads of the Bill are being drafted. It is separate legislation that does not take from the importance of the county enterprise boards and the role they play. The Government has made a decision about it. The heads are being drafted and we will keep the House informed. It will not interfere with the ability...
- Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: This issue is of importance not just here but throughout Europe. Work is being driven by the Minister of State in this regard. I expect it will be later this year before the Bill is finalised.
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: I regard the issue of mortgage arrears as the single biggest issue facing our people at the moment. In that sense, I am well aware of the figures that were quoted publicly yesterday. I reject Deputy Martin's assertion that the Government has been chronically inactive in this regard. Deputy Martin is aware that the Government has taken a number of steps in this regard and has established a...
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: I made it perfectly clear that we are not talking about blanket forgiveness here. Again, I reject the Deputy's assertion that nothing is happening on this issue. The Financial Regulator expects the banks to furnish to him shortly, if not sooner, their plans to deal with these mortgage problems.
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: He expects the banks to furnish the details on the categories and sectors in which these mortgage problems exist. As the Deputy knows from experience, every mortgage case is different, depending on the current circumstances of the borrower. That is the reason driving this issue through a special Cabinet sub-committee is effective, in the sense of requiring the Department of the Environment,...
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: We will not have blanket forgiveness. Deputy Martin has deliberately misconstrued the scale and complexity of introducing what is probably one of the most complex pieces of legislation, the personal insolvency Bill. I assure the Deputy that the Office of the Attorney General, the Department of Justice and Equality and the Department of Finance have worked day and night to put this...
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: It would be nice to think we could have an overall solution for everybody's mortgage problem. Deputy Martin knows the problems of people in County Cork. I know about the problems of people all over the country and they all involve different circumstances.
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: There is a solution by category and sector for each case. I feel for many of those people who suffer from stress in their daily lives because of the problem facing them in terms of the scale of the mortgage they took on. Consider for example the people in Priory Hall who borrowed money to buy apartments that are now useless. Many of them never want to return to them.
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: These problems are legacy issues with which we have to and will deal. We cannot deal with them overnight.
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: I reject the Deputy's assertion that we are allowing the banks or the troika to dictate the agenda. As she is well aware, the Government and the relevant Ministers have made numerous changes to the memorandum of understanding with the troika in respect of the harder pressed, lower paid difficult situations in which many people find themselves. Of course we know the numbers but the regulator...
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: I established it a long time ago.
- Leaders' Questions (22 May 2012)
Enda Kenny: Clearly Deputy McDonald has no clue about how legislation is drafted nor has she experience of how Cabinet sub-committees work.
