- Mental Health Policy: Motion [Private Members] (9 Dec 2020)
Róisín Shortall: Today's motion from the Regional Group has been brought forward against a severe backdrop for the people of Ireland. Covid-19 has had an unprecedented impact on our nation's physical and mental well-being. At a time when demand has increased, service delivery has slowed and, in some cases, stopped, meaning that the pandemic has had a double hit on our nation's mental well-being. With...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Business of Joint Committee (9 Dec 2020)
Róisín Shortall: I wish to add one point. There is an issue about teenagers. As far as I know, none of the vaccines have been tested on children under 12 years and it will be some time before that is possible. I wish to give notice about clarification for breastfeeding mothers. There is no reference at all to that category. Perhaps the NIAC could clarify that for us too.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cancer Screening and Care Services: Discussion (9 Dec 2020)
Róisín Shortall: I welcome all of our guests and thank them for their presentations. I am concerned about a number of issues that were raised by Ms Morrogh. While the additional funding that was provided...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cancer Screening and Care Services: Discussion (9 Dec 2020)
Róisín Shortall: In fairness, we are seeing this kind of mismatch all over the health service, with people throwing their hands in the air, saying that they cannot get staff and that something must be done about it. I am interested to know what exactly is being done about it. The witnesses said that staff shortages have been audited. Has that work been published? Is it possible to get a report that sets...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cancer Screening and Care Services: Discussion (9 Dec 2020)
Róisín Shortall: It is very difficult to get a handle on what exactly is happening and what steps can be taken to address this very significant problem. We are not going to be able to provide services unless we have staff available. Action obviously needs to be taken at Government level in that regard. I ask Professor Ó Laoide to provide us with details of the auditing done to date and the available...
