Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Mortgage to Rent Scheme (29 Jan 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: 612. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the measures he is taking to increase awareness of the mortgage to rent scheme among local authority staff, public representatives and persons who remain in mortgage difficulties and who fulfil the criteria to qualify for the scheme, thus allowing them to stay in their own homes; and if he will make a statement on the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: National Council for Special Education: Chairperson Designate (29 Jan 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: I join in welcoming the delegation and apologise for not being here at the very beginning. I thank Mr. Hayes for his presentation and welcome him to the role. I also pay tribute to Mr. Eamon Stack, whom I know going back a long way, as he was principal of a school my son attended at one stage. He had a very wide educational experience but Mr. Hayes is coming from a different perspective....

Local Government (Rates) Bill 2018: Second Stage (30 Jan 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: We too will be supporting the Bill. It is a welcome opportunity to have this discussion because there are many issues that are very worrying. I refer, for example, to the revaluation process in particular. Other Deputies have raised the matter and the fact that valuation was not done for such a long time. Since the process started, it has caused difficulty for those whose valuations went...

Prohibition of Above-cost Ticket Touting Bill 2017: Second Stage [Private Members] (31 Jan 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: The Labour Party wants to see the issue of ticket touting addressed. We have all witnessed significant mark-ups on greatly desired tickets for sporting events or concerts almost immediately the tickets went on sale initially. I am somewhat different from Deputy Donnelly in that I would be more likely to be looking for a ticket for a Munster rugby match than for an Ariana Grande concert.

Prohibition of Above-cost Ticket Touting Bill 2017: Second Stage [Private Members] (31 Jan 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: That may say more about me than it does about Deputy Donnelly. We certainly recognise there is an issue to be addressed. I understand and support the points made by my constituency colleague, Deputy Quinlivan. This Bill is coming from a Fine Gael and a Fianna Fáil Member but nobody saw fit to move on a Bill that came from a Sinn Féin Member. This is clearly about confidence and supply.

Prohibition of Above-cost Ticket Touting Bill 2017: Second Stage [Private Members] (31 Jan 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: No.

Prohibition of Above-cost Ticket Touting Bill 2017: Second Stage [Private Members] (31 Jan 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: I will leave the two Deputies to sort this out between them. I am not sure what happened. I am hearing different things from different sides.

Prohibition of Above-cost Ticket Touting Bill 2017: Second Stage [Private Members] (31 Jan 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: The point I am making is that this situation is very unusual. When I came in here today I did not know whether the Bill would be introduced by the Minister or the two Deputies who sponsored it. It is very unusual for a Private Members' Bill to be introduced in this way and I am absolutely certain it would not have happened if any other parties had been involved. That is the point I am...

Written Answers — Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Ministerial Meetings (31 Jan 2019)

To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation if she will report on her meeting with the EU Commissioner for Competition; the discussions she had regarding state aid rules and the way in which they will affect the ability to assist companies that are negatively impacted by Brexit; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4589/19]

Jan O'Sullivan: 44. [4592/19]

Written Answers — Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Legislative Measures (31 Jan 2019)

Children's Rights: Motion [Private Members] (6 Feb 2019)

Children's Rights: Motion [Private Members] (6 Feb 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: He was making a point of order.

Children's Rights: Motion [Private Members] (6 Feb 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: Can we not make points of order in the Chamber any more?

Children's Rights: Motion [Private Members] (6 Feb 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: I thank the Acting Chairman. I am going to speak about the motion first. Two weeks ago, we were all in the Mansion House at a very dignified and moving ceremony commemorating the first Dáil. Very much central to the first Dáil was the Democratic Programme, written by Tom Johnson, the leader of the Labour Party. It was adopted by the first Dáil 100 years ago. It stated the...

Children's Rights: Motion [Private Members] (6 Feb 2019)

Jan O'Sullivan: Other people who spoke prior to the two Deputies Healy-Rae referred to various decisions made. Of course, they did not refer to the fact the Labour Party in government presided over the introduction of free GP care for children aged under six, special needs assistants and extra resource teachers in schools and the second free preschool year in the absolute worst of times. Just for the...
