Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: EU Proposals on Taxation of the Digital Economy: Discussion (26 Apr 2018)

Michael McGrath: I welcome both MEPs. I will focus on two issues. One is the issue at hand this morning, namely, the digital services tax proposals from the Commission, while the second is on non-performing loans. The digital tax strikes me as a fundamental shift in the operation of taxation across the European Union. It is currently a matter for each member state and there is a veto, as both witnesses...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: EU Proposals on Taxation of the Digital Economy: Discussion (26 Apr 2018)

Michael McGrath: There was an estimate of €5 billion being raised from a 3% turnover tax. How would those taxes be distributed? Would it be like the CCCTB where it depends on sales, assets and employees with an apportionment whereby the large member states get the bigger share? What would the apportionment of the tax be when it is collected?

I wish to move on to the issue of non-performing...
