Éamon Ó Cuív: 35. To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the progress made to date with the roll out of the national broadband scheme; the minimum requirement in terms of megabits under the tender; the reason it has not been possible to require all tenders to bid to provide a minimum of one gigabit to each premises; if extra points will be awarded as part of the tendering...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: There seems to be a lot of empty seats of witnesses. Are we going to do this in one session or two sessions?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: They are here, they are upstairs.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: They have because I was talking to them.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: Nílim ag iarraidh dul roimh an gCathaoirleach, ach tá seans ann go gcuirifimid ar fad ceisteanna a bheidh cosúil le chéile. An bhféadfaimis na ceisteanna ar fad a thógaint, b'fhéidir, i round 1 i dtosach seachas go bhfreagrófaí mise-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: An pointe atá agam ná na ceisteanna a thógaint ón seachtar againn atá anseo faoi láthair agus ansin na freagraí, seachas five and five. Nil a fhios agam.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I think we will find overlaps on the questions.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I will be very brief. I will do it in five minutes. My understanding is that Enterprise Ireland currently owns no sites and that any sites owned in rural Ireland are actually owned by IDA Ireland. As planning requirements get more difficult, should IDA Ireland's sites be transferred to Enterprise Ireland and should there be a policy of having serviced sites - not buildings - available for...

Éamon Ó Cuív: What are business angel groups?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: There seems to be some given that everything in Ireland has to be in a town, village or city. I feel when Enterprise Ireland approaches this map exercise, it will discover some of the major industries are not in towns. I am thinking of the Avonmore factory in Ballyragget, County Kilkenny.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I am thinking of a certain timber mill near me, which is in the middle of nowhere.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I do not understand it - just because people have small back gardens, it attracts industry. What is the definition of a "town”? It is houses close together with small back gardens compared to all of us in the countryside who live with big back gardens and fields around us. There is no fundamental difference between the two, apart from twisty roads and broadband. It will be...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: We will see the facts on the map.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I have a further question on one of the most important points of debate. It is one on which I note the European Union is changing its policy at a snail's policy. Does Enterprise Ireland define high-speed broadband as 1 Gbit, 100 Mbps or 30 Mbps? What do large companies need to operate?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Sustaining Viable Rural Communities: Discussion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: Tá cúpla ceist agam ar ionadaithe Údarás na Gaeltachta. Cad iad na féidearthachtaí atá ann ó thaobh chruthú fostaíochta in earnáil na teanga? Dá gcuirfí an straitéis 20 bliain i bhfeidhm go huile is go hiomlán, cé mhéad post breise a bhféadfadh sé a chruthú sa nGaeltacht? Acmhainn aiceanta...
- Topical Issue Debate: Seirbhísí Farantóireachta (27 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: Gabhaim mo bhuíochas leis an gCeann Comhairle as ucht an deis an cheist seo a thógáil maidir leis an mbád farantóireachta go hInis Mór. Rinne an Rialtas deireadh ciseach den cheist seo ar fad. D'fhág sé praiseach idir na seirbhísí aeir agus na seirbhísí báid go hÁrainn. Is é fírinne an scéil ná go...
- Topical Issue Debate: Seirbhísí Farantóireachta (27 Oct 2016)
Éamon Ó Cuív: Tá go leor staire sa chás seo agus ní fhéadfaí a rá gur stair an-mhaith é le cúpla bliain anuas. Réiteach gan réiteach, leath-réiteach, réiteach nár oibrigh, bagairtí agus, ag deireadh an lae, éaginnteacht do phobal an oileáin. Mar is eol don Aire Stáit, mar Theachta Dála do Ghaillimh Thiar cosúil...

Éamon Ó Cuív: 114. To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht an bhfuil cúnamh ar fáil le ranganna Gaeilge a chur ar siúl in áit (sonraí tugtha); má tá, cén eagraíocht ar cheart teagmháil a dhéanamh léi faoi seo; agus an ndéanfaidh sí ráiteas ina thaobh. [32054/16]
