Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: That is not indicated. It is important to point out for the record that the graph detail provided to members does not indicate that those figures are millions of euro.

Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services
Vote 38 - Department of Health (Supplementary)
(8 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Noting the increased provision of 3%, particularly the much stronger base from which subheads I3 and I4 operate, consequently securing a significantly larger supplementary provision for the end of 2015 than subheads I1 and I2, HSE Dublin Mid-Leinster and HSE Dublin North East, did the HSE carry out an exercise to confirm need in each of the four regions in questions, rather than simply...

Vote 38 - Department of Health (Supplementary)
(8 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: There is no specific reference to disability services across the different subheads. Is it possible that within subhead I5 there is additional money for disability services?

Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services
Vote 38 - Department of Health (Supplementary)
(8 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: HIQA recommendations are not options. Ultimately, the failure in terms of compliance is going to push everybody into a situation where powers for HIQA or some other entity will have to be realised in order to effect implementation either through oversight or using the bata mór - the big stick - in terms of these improvements, amendments and changes to any physical entity in respect of...

Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services
Vote 38 - Department of Health (Supplementary)
(8 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: It was just for clarification. In the Supplementary Estimate to cover the State Claims Agency to the end of this year, there is an almost doubling of the provision as originally anticipated. There is a 97% increase, which is a phenomenal sum. Can the Minister provide the committee with an explanation as to why there is such a significant increase to get us across the line to 31 December?

Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services
Vote 38 - Department of Health (Supplementary)
(8 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Good.

Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services
Vote 38 - Department of Health (Supplementary)
(8 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Provision of €10 million is made in the budget for 2016 for the roll-out of access to free GP care to those between the ages of six and 12. As the cost of the same service over a year is €39 million, does that reflect the Minister's anticipation that the engagement with the Irish Medical Organisation is unlikely to come to a conclusion before the last quarter of the coming...

Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services
Vote 38 - Department of Health (Supplementary)
(8 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Very briefly - I made reference to it earlier - my concern is that we are not providing expansion and new builds in terms of the public long-term residential care network. There are real concerns at a number of sites around the country that, as the Minister acknowledged in earlier commentary, because of the age profile of many of the buildings in use, which were not purpose-built for their...

Written Answers — Department of Health: Home Care Packages (9 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: 125. To ask the Minister for Health when a home care package will be completed in order for a bed to become available for a person (details supplied) who is currently awaiting transfer to Cork University Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [44337/15]

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Medical Cards: Health Service Executive (9 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I welcome Ms Hoey and her colleagues. On the figures for those who have taken up the under-six and over-70 schemes, 204,000 and 47,000, respectively, does the primary care reimbursement service, PCRS, have projected figures? How far short of what was expected are these figures? Is it the case a significant number may not have taken up the scheme to date? This information would be helpful....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Medical Cards: Health Service Executive (9 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: It has not been published yet. That is why I could not get the information.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Update on Child and Family Services: Tusla (10 Dec 2015)

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I welcome Mr. Jeyes and his colleagues here this morning. I recognise that a considerable body of work has been carried out since the establishment of Tusla. That is without question. We are all conscious of the restrictions on funding and resources and the impact that can have in terms of how much further the Tusla team would like to be at this point in time. We can only hope that...
