Ciarán Lynch: Since when?
- Mortgage Arrears: Motion (Resumed) (4 Nov 2009)
Ciarán Lynch: I would like to begin by thanking all those who contributed to this debate in the past two nights. However, it is regrettable that the Government should seek to reject this motion and replace it with what is fundamentally a deeply flawed amendment. It is an amendment that buries its head in the sand and repeats once again that the banking fundamentals are sound, when all statistical...

Ciarán Lynch: The real world knows that Irish banks are bust and have been bust for a long time.
- Mortgage Arrears: Motion (Resumed) (4 Nov 2009)
Ciarán Lynch: The banks have liabilities that are four to five times their asset base. That is a busted flush. There is no basis to the contention suggested last night that the 24 month accommodation will create any risk of unfavourable perceptions in the markets about Irish banking lending. Ultimately, the Government amendment is about being more concerned about its friends in the banks than the plight...

- Order of Business (5 Nov 2009)
Ciarán Lynch: To clarify, I understand that the Minister's position is that the Bill will be commenced on 1 December. However, there is some ambiguity with regard to the specific section dealing with upward-only rent reviews. Can the Tánaiste clarify the situation with regard to that section? Will it be commenced along with the other sections of the Bill?
- National Asset Management Agency Bill 2009: Report Stage (Resumed) and Final Stage (5 Nov 2009)
Ciarán Lynch: In the context of amendment No. 79, the Labour Party understands that the National Asset Management Agency Bill is emergency legislation. The mantra the Minister has continually repeated is that this is an issue of systemic importance.
