Mary Harney: Proposals were advanced a couple of years ago by my colleague, the then Minister, Deputy Molloy, which had much support initially. Unfortunately, as the days moved on the support waned and the proposal that an opinion poll could not be carried out within a certain number of days from polling day failed. The initial support for the proposal evaporated and it was subsequently withdrawn.
