- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: Could I get a commitment from the witnesses here today that they will especially look at the Inver to Malin Beg to Fintown area which the Killybegs ambulance looks after?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I am sorry to cut across Mr. Morton but the base is there in Killybegs. All we need is a crew. What is it going to cost? It could save lives. That is what we are all here for. It is to save lives.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I have a few questions to come back on. The Minister was in here last week and I brought up the issue of ambulances waiting at Letterkenny for four to five hours on average. She informed me that ambulance personnel were put into Letterkenny last year to help push it forward so the waiting times would not be as long. I think that person was there to hand over to the matron in charge. Is...

Manus Boyle: Yes.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I heard from the people in Letterkenny that it worked well. It should be there on a daily basis. At the end of the day, if we can keep the ambulances on the road going to calls, it will reduce people's stress. If we can get them turned around in Letterkenny within an hour and get the blue lights to where they need to go, it will save lives. It is something we really need to enforce in the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I always hear about the golden hour. It is just not happening in rural parts of Donegal. The witnesses talked about the air ambulance. How far is it away? Is it ten years away or is it pie in the sky that we would have a helicopter service for rural communities?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: Could I see one in Donegal in a few years?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: At the minute, we have cruise ships coming into Killybegs and could have 3,000 to 4,000 people coming in to the town in a day and do not have one ambulance to cover it. If the ambulance in Killybegs leaves, we have no cover. People keep saying to me that the ambulance service needs to double up. When our ambulance rolls in Killybegs, we have no cover. In fairness, the witnesses mentioned...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I am glad to hear that because securing a helicopter service to look after Donegal is one of the things that I have been trying to work on, along with party members who are also on the cross-Border committee on Northern Ireland. It is really crucial. We are totally left on our own. I will give one example from last Wednesday, which really maddened me. While the times might not be...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: I thank the Chair and everybody who is listening in. I know the whole fishing community around Ireland is looking in on this meeting here today. It is crucial. I wish Mr. Cormac Burke well. I know he had his operation on Thursday and I hope everything is going well. We are thinking of him. My first question is for Mr. O'Donnell. The Norwegians are overfishing mackerel stocks in Irish...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: On the question of blocking access and imposing trade measures, what payback does Ireland get for letting the Norwegians in to access the blue whiting stock in our waters?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: It is hard to believe.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: They have let us down big time.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: It makes no sense at all.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: Can Mr. O'Donnell see this being stopped? Is Norway going to be stopped overfishing? Is there any way of doing it?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: Can our Minister call for sanctions to be imposed?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: What is going on is ridiculous. It was reported last week that the Norwegians had landed 40,000 tonnes of mackerel. That is our quota for the whole year and they landed it in one week. Something has to be done. We cannot turn a blind eye any more.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs: Quotas, Common Fisheries Policy and Sustainability Impact Assessment: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)
Manus Boyle: Deputy Mac Lochlainn is right; there is nobody giving up the flag. However, there has to be something for the catching sector and service industries. If we take the ports in Killybegs and Castletownbere, there are a lot of service industries including engineering, net menders and factories. All of that has built up this last 50 years around these ports. There has to be something in it for...
