Mary Butler: That is the case, regardless of whether it is clothing or whatever else. We have heard that people go into a shop and try on clothing from a certain brand and then they go online and buy it. I think that goes on in every country. There is not an awful lot that we can do to prevent it happening.

National Cervical Screening Programme: Statements (1 May 2018)

Mary Butler: I had misunderstood the speaking situation this evening. I thought we would still be able to ask questions, but obviously it is statements at this stage. The fundamental issue that goes to the core of the matter is the withholding of vital information. Why was Ms Phelan's doctor not told of the mistake with her case until 2016? The audit had identified that the issue took place in...

Questions on Promised Legislation (2 May 2018)

Mary Butler: The Government lost a Dáil vote on occupational pensions for community employment supervisors by a substantial margin last week. I repeat the call that was made in the motion that was agreed by the House for the Minister to meet the unions as a matter of urgency so that strike action can be averted. Approximately 40 of the 1,200 community employment supervisors in this country are due...

Topical Issue Debate (Resumed): Medical Card Eligibility (2 May 2018)

Mary Butler: Ireland has an ageing population, but thankfully life expectancy has increased. Some of us, unfortunately, get sick, develop cancer, terminal illness or chronic conditions. This is a time when some people who do not qualify for a medical card need it most. The application process can be quite difficult if one is ill, recently diagnosed, traumatised and vulnerable. Many Oireachtas...
