Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: AontaÃm go hiomlán le mo chomhleacaà go bhfuil géarghá le dÃospóireacht maidir le cúrsaà CAP agus mar sin de. Ach ar dtús, ba mhaith liom comhghairdeas a ghabháil le peileadóirà Chumann Peile Naomh BrÃd, Roscomáin, as ucht an chraobh a thabhairt siar, thar An tSionann leo. Ba mhaith liom freisin comhghairdeas a ghabháil le iománaithe Chumann Naomh Thomáis a thug leo an...
- Seanad: Order of Business (20 Mar 2013)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: We will be calling for that during the debate. I commend the Cypriot parliamentarians who stood up for their citizens last night in a very robust manner. I hope our Government will support them at European level to negotiate a fairer deal for Cypriot citizens. I add to the calls for the Minister for Finance to come in and debate the EU decision to impose the proposed deal. Did he agree...

I find it quite ironic that Government Senators are standing up today and asking for a crackdown on social welfare fraud, when the Minister for Social...
- Seanad: Order of Business (21 Mar 2013)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: It is certainly time that anybody who is defrauding the system is brought to task. The Government Senators need to bring the Minister to task and ask why individual cases like those mentioned are not being tackled. If any of the Senators have information on those cases, they should be providing that information.
- Seanad: Order of Business (21 Mar 2013)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: They should not be trying to insinuate that everybody on social welfare is in a similar situation. The debate I would like to call for today concerns a serious issue. Many health issues are raised here on a daily basis, but we need a specific debate on the structure and management of the HSE. We need this debate so that we can make significant savings within the system. We had a wonderful,...

- Seanad: Finance Bill 2013 [Certified Money Bill]: Committee and Remaining Stages (21 Mar 2013)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Senator Barrett's argument is valid and should be taken into consideration. We have seen in other areas of the Finance Bill that those on lower means are being unfairly targeted for tax to be taken from them while this section gives leeway for the better off to have to pay more and the Senator's suggestion should have been taken on board.
