Order of Business (1 Mar 2007)

Billy Timmins: I tabled a question to the Minister for Education and Science, seeking the pupil-teacher ratios in a number of schools. They are not available yet even though we are six months into the school year. Can the Tánaiste raise it with her so I can have those figures to demonstrate how the Government has failed to live up to another commitment? Can we have the figures before Easter? Will the...

Defence (Amendment) No. 2 Bill 2006: Second Stage (1 Mar 2007)

Billy Timmins: This is a detailed Bill that may not excite the public's mind because it is very technical. The Minister of State spoke of the desire to maintain the discipline of the Defence Forces. Billy Timmins: I know the Minister was abroad recently. However, it is a pity he will not be abroad on St. Patrick's Day, our national day of commemoration. Traditionally, the Minister for Defence has travelled abroad to meet troops. The Minister probably wants to attend the parade in Limerick on the day. It is important that of all Ministers, the Minister for Defence should be the one to travel abroad.
