Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 29 - Environment, Climate and Communications (Supplementary)
(8 Mar 2022)

Jennifer Whitmore: I thank the Minister for his updates. My first question follows on from Deputy O'Rourke's points about poverty-proofing and the use of departmental funds for the universal electricity rebate. There have been talks about excise duty rates and a swing mechanism being put in place for that. Has the Government had any discussions about VAT reductions? Hitting the VAT and tax would have been a...

Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 29 - Environment, Climate and Communications (Supplementary)
(8 Mar 2022)

Jennifer Whitmore: It was announced in December so it has been talked about for a long time. Going through a legislative process is not the quickest way to deal with this sort of stuff, whereas cutting VAT or excise on fuel is an immediate measure the Government could have taken.

Ban on Sex for Rent Bill 2022: Second Stage [Private Members] (23 Mar 2022)

Jennifer Whitmore: I thank Deputy Cian O'Callaghan for the work he has put into this issue, which has largely not been dealt with by the Government. It has been off the political agenda in this country even though there are some reports of it being dealt with in the UK. It has probably been off the agenda here because unless one has been in the footsteps of someone who faces the rental crisis that this...

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (23 Mar 2022)

Jennifer Whitmore: Considering the high rate of Covid and the impact it is having on our communities and our hospital capacity, I ask the Minister to indicate a clear timeframe for the roll-out of the fourth vaccine jab, particularly for those who are most vulnerable.
