- Seanad: Lost at Sea Scheme: Motion (1 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: I thank the Minister of State for outlining his position. He adopted this position when he addressed the joint committee in June, when he stated, "I am confident that a fair and objective examination by the committee of all the written and oral evidence placed before it over the past two months will show that the Department's position is both fair and reasonable." As I pointed out to him at...
- Seanad: Lost at Sea Scheme: Motion (1 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: I expected more from the Green Party, although I know it is committed to supporting the Government in matters financial. This is a fundamental issue of principle and I ask the Government to reconsider its position. It is a political issue that can only be resolved by the politicians in this House.
- Seanad: Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill 2008: Report and Final Stages (1 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: I second the amendment. I made my arguments earlier and it may be a question of the period of reflection which the Minister has had that determines if he is minded to accept the amendments at this stage.

- Seanad: Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill 2008: Report and Final Stages (1 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: I thank the Minister of State, Deputy Moloney, and the Minister, Deputy Dermot Ahern, for giving time to this important Bill, in which we are essentially ensuring we are in compliance with our international obligations. It is regularising a situation which has been amiss for some time.
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: January 2012.
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: I refer to the Taoiseach's outburst in the Dáil yesterday and interview with Seán O'Rourke on RTE Radio. It was characterised as a robust defence of the budget, but his entire approach amounted purely to bullying. He is good at this. Insulting and shouting down the Opposition and dismissing all other arguments is not political debate; they are bully boy tactics. That is what he went...
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: The Taoiseach's popularity rating in the most recent opinion poll was 8%. Does it have to be at -8% before he realises that people have seen through these bully boy tactics? During the 2007 election campaign he dismissed the Opposition's views on the economy.
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: It is relevant. The Taoiseach said, "If the car is going well, you don't change to a Lada ... The Opposition don't know what they're talking about ... You need experience, you need mastery of detail."
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: He said a politician needs political skills to bring people with him to run the economy.
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: These are the bully boy tactics that have landed Fianna Fáil, the Government and this country in the state it is today. Like most bullies, when he got to the top position, he could not hack it.
- Seanad: Criminal Law (Insanity) Bill 2010 [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil] - Report and Final Stages (16 Dec 2010)
Eugene Regan: I thank the Minister of State for his attendance. This is an important Bill. It is notable that some Opposition amendments were accepted by the Government, which is not always the case. They have clearly been vetted. I welcome the passage of the Bill.
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Jan 2011)
Eugene Regan: On 23 February 2010, I raised the issue of the relationship between the Taoiseach, Deputy Brian Cowen, and Seán FitzPatrick of Anglo Irish Bank. I was shouted down in the House and the following day the Taoiseach went on "Morning Ireland" to suggest I raising this question was contemptible. Later in March, Deputy Enda Kenny raised a simple question as to whether there was a discussion with...
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Jan 2011)
Eugene Regan: Matters are too serious for that to be allowed to happen. We are losing valuable time to get the economy right. We have much rushed and emergency legislation in this House, yet the forthcoming finance Bill cannot be passed more quickly than is proposed by the two Government parties. The Green Party has a big responsibility in this. It is indulging the Fianna Fáil-led Government in the...
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Jan 2011)
Eugene Regan: That was an embarrassment not only to the Taoiseach but to this country.
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Jan 2011)
