- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: I realise that Ms Downes has not been in her role for Caranua's duration but she must have some understanding of the kind of difficulties that presented during its establishment. What would she do differently if she were starting out now? It is important to hear about that.
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: Ms Downes earlier accepted that there have been some failures in the controls and how the funds were dispersed. Will she comment on that?
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: I am not sure that was focused on right from the word go, though that may have been due to the workload. Caranua's opening statement drew attention to survivors who required additional support managing their application as well as survivors who had received limited or no funding supports. It seems obvious that there was always going to be a cohort within this group-----
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: Would Caranua not have triaged some of that at the beginning? The people who are able to come forward will do so. By definition, one would want to look at the people within the group who did not come forward.
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: That is precisely the conclusion I have reached. That is a criticisable failure. I accept that there were staffing issues, that it was chaotic and that large numbers of applications and expectations had to be dealt with. However, Caranua should have anticipated that this was a very vulnerable group. We deal with people coming through our door all the time and one has to work harder with...
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: That was not very early on. When one considers the money that was spent, the bulk of the money was spent on housing supports. Ms Downes told me earlier that where there was a home ownership they were the people who were likely to end up getting more.
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: That is where most of the money was spent in the early part.
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: So the learning happened when most of the money was spent.
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: Perhaps Ms Downes would give us a breakdown of what was spent-----
- Public Accounts Committee: Caranua Financial Statements 2017 (17 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: -----each year so we can see the breakdown.

- Acknowledgement and Apology to Women and Families affected by CervicalCheck Debacle: Statements (22 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: Like others, I welcome today's apology and the acknowledgement of the hurt and, in some cases, devastation suffered by women and their families as a result of the CervicalCheck crisis. This is not a happy day; it is a solemn and sad day for those in the Visitors Gallery. I know that recognition for the wrongs done and an apology for them are important landmarks for those so directly...

Catherine Murphy: I am not asking for priority.
- An tOrd Gnó (Atógáil) - Order of Business (Resumed) (22 Oct 2019)
Catherine Murphy: A number of months ago we passed a motion to declare a climate emergency. We also know that there has been a very large overrun on the national children's hospital project and that there is the prospect of the issuing of a tender for the national broadband plan. A motion that we brought forward was passed here in July on the reviewing ov the national development plan. Has any work been...
