- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Health Services (30 Sep 2025)
Erin McGreehan: It is good to have the Minister of State here. We pride ourselves on having a health service based on need and not on the ability to pay. Unfortunately, a two-tier system is growing around us, and growing faster than ever before. From lifesaving treatments to basis prevention and, devastatingly, in cancer care, the divide is becoming ever greater. If people can pay privately or if their...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Health Services (30 Sep 2025)
Erin McGreehan: The Minister of State got an answer that was about access to consultants and doctors; it was not about treatments and therapies, which was the question I asked. The Minister of State got an answer to a different question of inequity in healthcare. I reiterate we cannot continue to allow to have two-tier access to oncology drugs and vaccines based on whether people have the ability to...
- Situation in Gaza: Statements (1 Oct 2025)
Erin McGreehan: To be very straight up, Gaza is not enduring any conflict; it is enduring a genocide. More than 66,000 Palestinians have been killed or murdered, with one in three being children. Families are being wiped out. I find it hard to reconcile the number of mothers who have watched their babies die and the number of babies and children who have sat with their parents who have been murdered...
- Investment in Sport and Sporting Infrastructure: Statements (1 Oct 2025)
Erin McGreehan: It is always great to have an opportunity to discuss the positive impact of Government investment in sport, particularly in Louth. Nobody can dispute the value of sports capital programmes, the large-scale sports infrastructure fund and the major events programme. They have transformed opportunities and outlooks across the country. In 2024, nearly €7 million was awarded to clubs...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Engagement with Institute of Public Health (30 Sep 2025)
Erin McGreehan: The witnesses are all very welcome and it is great to have them here. The datasets is what we have been very clear on. The lack of comparable data is an absolute barrier. It is a barrier for the Republic as well with the interdepartmental problems from not having clear datasets. The witnesses mentioned the BRIDGEforEU regulation and an application under that. Has the IPH submitted that...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Engagement with Institute of Public Health (30 Sep 2025)
Erin McGreehan: Obviously, we implement the regulation because, well, it is a regulation, and it is our Department of Health that has to draw down any funding from the EU in relation to implementing the BRIDGEforEU regulation. Is that the case or is it-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Engagement with Institute of Public Health (30 Sep 2025)
Erin McGreehan: Maybe it is an opportunity for the committee to investigate that regulation. Cross-Border workers were mentioned. That is a massive problem and it will be aired at this committee as well. This is one thing but, looking ahead, as regards the IPH's draft strategy for 2025 onwards, and as the Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, what should our priorities be to...

I ask those attending remotely to mute their microphones when not contributing so that we do not pick up any background noise or feedback. As usual, I remind those in attendance to ensure that their mobile phones are in silent mode or switched off. Members attending...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science: Apprenticeships: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)
Erin McGreehan: I want to follow up Deputy Smith's question. There are geographic considerations and divergences around the country in the offerings. Have the witnesses identified any regional gaps in certain apprenticeships in the various regions of the country?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science: Apprenticeships: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)
Erin McGreehan: As a tangent off that, with apprenticeships and businesses it is all about competitiveness and how we can get more people working and generate the cash flow for the economy. Are the witnesses seeing how the apprenticeships are improving competitiveness? Are we filling labour shortages as opposed to putting that competitiveness into the economy?
