Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Health Sector Pay Report: Public Service Pay Commission (26 Sep 2018)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Health Sector Pay Report: Public Service Pay Commission (26 Sep 2018)

Tom Neville: With the greatest respect, as the witnesses are just telling us what they are finding and this is not a slur on them, there is a centralised human resources, HR, service across the HSE. Does it not have that data?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Health Sector Pay Report: Public Service Pay Commission (26 Sep 2018)

Tom Neville: We have been presented with figures of staff shortages that are broken down by community healthcare organisation, CHO. When the witnesses asked for those figures, that was manager-driven to get those specific figures. Were the witnesses able to get them?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Health Sector Pay Report: Public Service Pay Commission (26 Sep 2018)

Tom Neville: Is the report going to streamline where the quick wins may be and where the medium-term and long-term wins are? I think the committee heard that there are 26 or 28 steps to hiring a psychiatric nurse, which is very cumbersome. Will the report be highlighting the quick wins?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Health Sector Pay Report: Public Service Pay Commission (26 Sep 2018)

Tom Neville: We are trying to tease out where there are quick wins. The likes of the IT systems need to be changed, and that is going to take longer, but those 28 steps could be cut pretty quickly. That is the basis of the question. On recruitment and retention, other jurisdictions are in competition. We know it is a global marketplace now, the price of flights is cheaper, it is easier to get to...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Overcrowding (2 Oct 2018)

Tom Neville: I support Deputy Carey's comments on the smaller hospitals or sister hospitals of the University Limerick hospitals group in the mid-west. We have been told to use these facilities, particularly the injury clinics. If I injure myself playing a match, the first place I will think of is UHL in Dooradoyle. We do not know what specific services are provided by the other hospitals, whether St....

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Overcrowding (2 Oct 2018)

Tom Neville: I reiterate that we need this project to proceed as quickly as possible. From what I hear, dates are being shifted out all the time. The Minister of State is saying today that it will commence in 2021. We need to get this moving faster. I ask that we find a way to fast-track this process. I ask that the person who is appealing the decision to grant planning permission for the project, An...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Third Report of the Citizens' Assembly (Resumed): Professor Peter Stott (2 Oct 2018)

Tom Neville: I apologise for being late. I have been reading about methane and agriculture in Professor Stott's presentation. This might be outside his remit but does he have any proposals to mitigate the methane emissions in agriculture? Second, he mentioned dust and cooling the planet. Will he elaborate on that? I found it interesting as I have not heard that previously.
