Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Mental Health Supports in Schools and Tertiary Education: Discussion (Resumed) (25 Oct 2022)

Paul Kehoe: I must cut the meeting short. I am genuinely time constrained. I thank the union officials for coming here today. The discussion was very beneficial for all of the committee members. Another group is due to come in, from the State Examinations Commission, to discuss the delay in the junior certificate results being published. Normally we would have had a three-hour meeting, but...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Junior Cycle Examination Results 2022: State Examinations Commission (25 Oct 2022)

Paul Kehoe: A number of questions have been asked already. The student population at both leaving certificate and junior certificate level is going to increase. At the moment, there is an issue with the junior certificate. What is the commission putting in place to ensure the same issue does not arise with regard to the leaving certificate next year or the year after? If there is a shortage of...

Paul Kehoe: Is there are a cut-off as to the number of years a teacher can be retired while still doing corrections in light of changes to the curriculum and what is happening in the classroom? People who have been retired for 20 years would not know the curriculum in the same way as people who retired five years ago.
