- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Jan 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: Over the past 12 months, I have asked this question of the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste, and the Minister, Deputy Eoghan Murphy. In fairness, the Minister of State, Deputy English, is doing a big job on it. Local needs have been in the guidelines since 2005. The EU has taken Ireland to court over the way it has conducted itself. I believe, in 2016, the Government informed the EU that it...

- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Jan 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I would appreciate if the Minister of State, Deputy English, could answer the question.
- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (29 Jan 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: Everybody is talking about this matter but for the wrong reason. The new children's hospital is expected to open in August 2022. The projected cost is €1.73 billion. I accept that we need the children's hospital. On 18 December last, the Taoiseach informed the Dáil that the project would cost €1.43 million. In 2017, I was informed that it would cost €983...

Peter Fitzpatrick: The bid was 20% cheaper.
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (30 Jan 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: We spend €1.4 million per week on agency nurses. There is one nurse available for every four vacancies. There is a €7,000 gap in pay and negotiations are ongoing in the WRC. There is a trolley situation, there are waiting lists and there is the issue of the winter bug, and I could go on and on. We always say one's health is one's wealth in life and the Taoiseach said this...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Pensions Legislation (30 Jan 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: The Government intends to pass legislation later this quarter to implement the institutions for occupational retirement provision, IORP II, directive. The Minister's counterpart in 2004, Séamus Brennan, provided for a derogation for a one-member scheme to apply when IORP I was being implemented that year. This was a practical solution in that the IORP I directive allowed one-member...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Pensions Legislation (30 Jan 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: If the directive is transposing the law as outlined, the much-needed projects to which I refer and many others will have to be terminated. I have seen the fantastic work they have done in Drogheda and Dundalk. That will take money away from providing immediate positive contributions to the housing crisis. I do not agree that what the Government is doing is in people's interests. If the...
- Select Committee on Justice and Equality: Message to Dáil (30 Jan 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I thank the Minister of State for his contribution. It is important that the Government create jobs for individuals with a disability. I am aware that its intention is to increase the proportion of people with a disability in the workforce to 6% by 2024, but that is far too long down the road. We have been working very closely with the Minister of State for the past few years. I thank the...
- Nurses and Midwives Industrial Action: Statements (7 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: The HSE has confirmed that 50,000 patients have been affected by the two-day strike action so far this week. All outpatient, inpatient and day surgery appointments for today have been cancelled. Other planned admissions including respite care and rehabilitation to community nursing units, including for people with intellectual disabilities, have been cancelled. Vulnerable people are losing...

- Death of Former Members: Expressions of Sympathy (13 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: Brendan McGahon was a gentleman, a politician, a family man and a friend. It was a very sad day for the people of Louth when Brendan passed away on 8 February 2017. Brendan was predeceased by his wife Celine and survived by his five children, Robert, Conor, Adele, Keith and Jill. What can one say about Brendan McGahon? He was a great man and he used to call to my constituency office to...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (13 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: Fear is spreading rapidly in my home county of Louth that the UK Government is considering dumping hazardous waste in the Mourne Mountains on the border of County Louth. We must nip this in the bud straight away. The UK Government radioactive waste management group is currently looking for suitable properties in Northern Ireland to take hazardous waste and the Mourne Mountains are believed...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Interim Report on Review of Youth Referrals: An Garda Síochána (13 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: I welcome the Garda Commissioner and his team. On 19 July 1991, Tom Oliver, a 43 year old man from Riverstown, County Louth, a husband and father of seven children and a sheep farmer with no connection to paramilitary or security forces, was abducted, tortured and brutally murdered by members of the Provisional IRA. His body was found across the Border in Belleek, County Armagh. He had...

Peter Fitzpatrick: -----the name of the council member who sent Tom Oliver to his death, he opted to write it down and give it to Judge Peter Smithwick. This family has suffered since that murder. A review of this case is under way. Will the Commissioner meet the family and update them on that review? Where do they go from here?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Interim Report on Review of Youth Referrals: An Garda Síochána (13 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: In regard to the identity of the person who directed that Tom Oliver be murdered, where do the family go from here?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Interim Report on Review of Youth Referrals: An Garda Síochána (13 Feb 2019)
Peter Fitzpatrick: My concern is for the family. I am delighted that the Commissioner has met them and will meet them again. This family lost their father and neighbours lost a friend. As I said, Tom Oliver had no connection with paramilitary organisations. He was an innocent man. I would like the family to get closure. I thank the Commissioner for his response.
