Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: European Fisheries Fund (19 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: We found money last year when farmers were in crisis because of the fodder shortage. Money was no object in terms of dealing with that situation. It was very interesting to note that when the Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine discussed the crisis that fishermen are going through because of the recent storms, the committee room was empty. On the other hand, when the committee...

Other Questions: Fish Farming (19 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: 8. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he will put in place measures to support the aquaculture sector in the event of a prolonged natural biotoxin outbreak to assist growers to survive; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26127/14]

Other Questions: Fish Farming (19 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: My question relates to biotoxin outbreaks affecting aquaculture operations around the coast. A number of areas are prone to biotoxin outbreaks which means shellfish cannot be harvested and must be kept in the water for a lengthy period until the biotoxin dissipates and test results show they are clear. This places a serious financial burden on the operations. My questions seeks to know if...

Other Questions: Fish Farming (19 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: We already had that information in reply to Question No. 5.

Other Questions: Fish Farming (19 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: The last ten seconds of the Minister of State's script actually dealt with the question and I welcome its inclusion in the operational programme. Perhaps a lot of time could be saved if the first minute and a half of the response did not comprise another rehash of the Department's press release. I acknowledge this is not the fault of the Minister of State, who is provided with a script....

Offences against the State (Amendment) Act 1998 and Criminal Justice (Amendment ) Act 1998: Motions (19 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: I welcome the opportunity to contribute to this debate on the renewal of certain sections of the Offences against the State (Amendment) Act 1998 and section 8 of the Criminal Justice (Amendment) Act 2009. I agree with the previous speaker that the Offences against the State (Amendment) Act 1998 should be repealed in its entirety. I do not believe there is any room for special legislation...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Drinks Industry and Rural Economy: Discussion (24 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: I thank the witnesses for their presentations which were interesting to say the least. I was intrigued when I heard the witnesses wanted to address the committee on the importance of the industry to Irish agriculture. I was interested to hear the pitch and it has not disappointed me. It is ironic the drinks industry is presenting to the committee to make the case drink is over-taxed in...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Agri-Taxation Review: Discussion (24 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: I thank the witnesses for their presentations. I am not from a farming background so I might not have the same knowledge of agricultural affairs as my colleagues. The Macra na Feirme presentation seems to make a bit more sense concerning conacre leasing arrangements. If leases are not long enough for farmers to develop their farms, the idea is to penalise people renting on short-term...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Prescription Charges (25 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: This question relates to the announcement by the HSE that it will reimburse patients on the long-term illness scheme who are also medical card holders the prescription charges they were wrongly charged as a result of having to use their medical cards to obtain prescription items, rather their long-term illness card.

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Prescription Charges (25 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: As this matter has been ongoing for a number of months, it seems strange that, even at this stage, we cannot obtain information from the HSE on how many people are affected. I have correspondence from the Minister going back to May in which he stated the process had started, yet we still do not have figures for how many are affected. There is also confusion about the timeframe for...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Prescription Charges (25 Jun 2014)

Thomas Pringle: Will the Minister of State clarify whether people affected before July 2013 will also receive reimbursements? Prescriptions charges were introduced in 2012. There is, therefore, a period up to July 2013 during which people with LTI books were wrongly charged for prescriptions because they obtained medicines while using their medical cards.

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Long-Term Illness Scheme Eligibility (25 Jun 2014)

[27108/14]
