Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Water Quality and Infrastructure: Environmental Protection Agency (14 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I thank Dr. Minihan. I think it is important that we allow all that on the record of the House. I will continue this line of questioning. Is it correct to say that unless Irish Water had been doing the testing on the separate sludge facility, it is likely that the issue in Ballymore Eustace would not have been identified?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Water Quality and Infrastructure: Environmental Protection Agency (14 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: In many ways it was pure coincidence that Irish Water was doing works at that location and decided to test the front end of facility.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Water Quality and Infrastructure: Environmental Protection Agency (14 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: Had that testing not been taking place, when is it likely that it would otherwise have been picked up?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Water Quality and Infrastructure: Environmental Protection Agency (14 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: In the second part of my slot, I would like to raise a disconnected issue, although it does have some connection. We have seen here a case of an accidental incident, where water quality was impacted. One could say that security at any of the water treatment facilities is at a minimal level. Taking the Ballymore Eustace plant as a particular example, because it serves nearly 700,000 people...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Water Quality and Infrastructure: Environmental Protection Agency (14 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: Obviously a deliberate breach would subsequently come into the remit of the EPA. Would that be fair to say?

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Tusla, the Child and Family Agency - Financial Statements 2020
(21 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I thank Mr. Gloster and the other witnesses for joining us today. Often at the Committee of Public Accounts we concentrate on the procurement elements of Tusla's budget, whereas often staffing represents the most significant level of spending. In Tusla's line of business, it is also the area that has the greatest impact in terms of service delivery. I am not sure if Mr. Gloster is familiar...

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Tusla, the Child and Family Agency - Financial Statements 2020
(21 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: Ms Duggan has touched on two of the points in the report. I am delighted to hear Tusla is more than familiar with the report and is participating in the inter-agency response. I know it is something the Taoiseach’s office is also involved in. Regarding the two issues she touched on, recruitment is one element but retention is another. In Dublin north city, 4% of cases are allocated...

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Tusla, the Child and Family Agency - Financial Statements 2020
(21 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I am conscious of time. Mr. Gloster has brought me to the point I was going to follow on to with Ms Duggan, which is the idea of multidisciplinary teams. While there are recruitment issues, I would come back to the issue of the senior social workers, and the report talks about 15 senior social workers in that area. I do not expect the witnesses to give me a commitment today but it might be...

Public Accounts Committee: 2020 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Tusla, the Child and Family Agency - Financial Statements 2020
(21 Oct 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I acknowledge the support which Tusla has given locally and I acknowledge the family support centres are funded from a staffing perspective. Perhaps Tusla might join me in putting as much pressure as possible on the Minister to also provide a capital programme for those family support centres because there is no point in funding the staff if they do not have a facility or premises. In...
