Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Transgender Health Issues: Discussion (4 Jul 2013)

As other members have stated, we are lucky that various groups appear before the committee and give us the information that we need. Since many of the questions that I was going to ask have been covered, I may make a few points instead of asking...

Mortgage Arrears Proposals: Motion [Private Members] (9 Jul 2013)

Sandra McLellan: The phrases "mortgage arrears" and "mortgage distress" have been heard often during the debate on the motion. While these terms may be technically correct, I am not sure they do the issue justice and paint the fullest picture. When we talk of mortgage arrears, we should remember the people we are discussing and the suffering and hardship they are undergoing. My constituency office has...

Vote 34 - National Gallery of Ireland (Revised)
(9 Jul 2013)

Sandra McLellan: I thank the Ministers for their presentations. I have two points to make. On subhead A7 with regard to cultural infrastructure development, there is a reduction of approximately 16.9%. This seems a very substantial reduction. I know Comhaltas received money in 2012 and again in 2013. Will the Minister break down the reduction further and comment on what it entails? On subhead A10,...

Sandra McLellan: On heritage, I wish to comment on the historic towns initiative pilot scheme. I live in Youghal and I have witnessed, at first hand, the value which its designation as a heritage town has added. Youghal is, of course, both a heritage town and a tourist town. Some €240,000 has been allocated in respect of the three towns designated under the historic towns initiative pilot scheme....
