Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs
(13 Jun 2019)

Catherine Murphy: When Dr. Lynch talks about the global funding that went to the Department, was that an increase across the board? The increase would have been accounted for by additional specific activities undertaken by the Department.

Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs
(13 Jun 2019)

Catherine Murphy: To move on, one of the issues I routinely come across is the lack of funding for youth services, which is an area that yields great benefits when proper investment is made. Is there an objective resource allocation model in place based on factors such as socio-economic circumstances, age and rural or urban location or is funding dependent on Pobal and which organisations are in a position to...

Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs
(13 Jun 2019)

Catherine Murphy: Funding of €60 million is provided to support the provision of youth services throughout the country, including services for young people at risk of disadvantage. This strikes me as a tiny amount of money in the context of the level of need. (13 Jun 2019)

Catherine Murphy: What we have seen to date is that what one has one holds. There is no flexibility to grow, even though an area may have a disproportionately large young population and problems may be presenting that it would be very cost-effective to deal with them and where one is dealing with young people at risk-----

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Treatment of Former Garda (18 Jun 2019)

Catherine Murphy: Which one of us who is a parent does not treasure moments such as a first smile, word, step or day at school, the big and little moments, which can never be recovered for either Majella Moynihan or her son, David? Even when I spoke to her earlier today, she reiterated that the totality of what happened ruined her life. I particularly want to compliment RTÉ and the "Documentary on One",...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Treatment of Former Garda (18 Jun 2019)

Catherine Murphy: I would appreciate an answer to my question on when the Minister or his predecessor knew about this case. It is important that the Garda Commissioner also answers that question. I have spoken to Majella Moynihan and she has been seeking her papers and quietly seeking an apology since 2005. It is only now that the case has come into the public arena that it is getting the attention it...
