Sittings and Business of Dáil: Motion (10 Mar 2016)

Paul Murphy: I, as a representative of the Anti-Austerity Alliance-People Before Profit, am now proposing a further amendment to our business, which I raised in the debate, on the statements on Irish Water and the water charges. In relation to what is happening in Brussels at the moment, we add our voice of...

Business of Dáil (22 Mar 2016)

Paul Murphy: Can we call on the Taoiseach to agree that as well as discussing the election of Taoiseach on 6 April, and presuming that none is elected, we might at least discuss water charges and Irish Water? This was the issue we discussed at length in the debate on the Order of Business on the last occasion. At least in theory, Fianna Fáil should not be against discussing Irish Water and water...

European Council Meeting: Statements (22 Mar 2016)

Paul Murphy: There have been many low points for the European Union over the past few years, including the campaign of terror unleashed against the Greek people for daring to stand up to the troika's austerity, the fiscal treaty outlawing any policies other than Thatcherism, and the silent coups led by the European Central Bank against the Greek and Italian Governments, but regardless of how low the...

Dáil Reform: Statements (6 Apr 2016)

Paul Murphy: I agree that is how this should have been done, that members of the sub-committee should have spoken first in alphabetical order. Like Deputy Howlin, I approached the Ceann Comhairle who also seemed to agree that a problematic situation had arisen. However, he said that this is what was now agreed.

Dáil Reform: Statements (6 Apr 2016)

Paul Murphy: On the Ceann Comhairle's list he had the Government, Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin, the Labour Party, AAA-PBP, Independents 4 Change, the Social Democrats and the Green Party, all the way down, all with ten minute slots. We propose to divide our ten-minute slot into five-minute slots but we cannot accept that we would now revert to five-minute slots, now that everybody else has spoken,...
