Trevor Sargent: James Joyce could not have written a better line.

Order of Business. (4 May 2004)

Trevor Sargent: Many Bills which could be considered far more urgent than the Electoral (Amendment) Bill would probably cost much less than €52 million to implement. Will the Taoiseach take action against that waste of €52 million?

Order of Business. (4 May 2004)

Trevor Sargent: I am asking about promised legislation, including the building control Bill and the disability Bill. If we are talking about what is urgent, the disability Bill has been left on the long finger for many years. The building control Bill has been moved and both are needed for people with disabilities. The Electoral (Amendment) Bill does not even make provision to vote for people who are blind.

Córais Uisce agus Séarachais. (4 May 2004)

Trevor Sargent: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Leas-Cheann Comhairle, as cead a thabhairt dom an cheist phráinneach seo faoi chúrsaí uisce a ardú. Deirtear in eagrán an lae inniu den nuachtán Lá gur tháinig laghdú de 1.6% an duine ar uisce inólta ar fud an domhain idir 2001 agus 2002. B'fhéidir go gceapann daoine gur fadhb í seo don Mheán Oirthear nó do thuaisceart na hAfraice, ach tá scéal...

Trevor Sargent: Question 133: To ask the Minister for Transport if he has investigated the experience of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority whose executives have expressed the view that the privatised terminals in State-owned airports were a disaster from a strategic point of view; when he intends to make a decision on the proposed introduction of a new terminal at Dublin Airport; and the person who will...

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31. (13 May 2004)

Trevor Sargent: I ask that Dáil Éireann be adjourned under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of national and life-threatening importance, namely, the need to formulate an action plan in response to revelations of radon gas levels in many homes, which are many hundreds of times the recommended background levels and to require the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to reinstate...

Order of Business. (13 May 2004)

Trevor Sargent: In his wisdom, the Ceann Comhairle saw fit not to allow the matter I raised under Standing Order 31. As regards promised legislation, what is the position regarding the building control Bill? This question relates to the matter I raised under Standing Order 31 but it goes beyond the appalling standards of finishing and energy insulation in new houses. The radon issue applies to existing...

Committee on Social Inclusion. (18 May 2004)

Trevor Sargent: Question 2: To ask the Taoiseach when the Cabinet committee on social inclusion last met. [13453/04]

Committee on Social Inclusion. (18 May 2004)

Trevor Sargent: I am not sure if this is a statistical or diary question. The Taoiseach might include it in his diary for the next meeting and might remind us about the format and when the decision was taken to have the next meeting. Will it be taken into account that the next meeting will be brought forward to a date which will mean the extra €350 million in tax announced by the Department of Finance will...

Trevor Sargent: We are in Europe.

Official Engagements. (18 May 2004)

Trevor Sargent: I appreciate Deputy Ó Caoláin giving way and, in these exceptional circumstances, I thank him very much. I understand from what the Taoiseach is saying he is not interested in becoming President of the European Commission and is more interested in domestic politics. Given that he said he would remain here to pester us for a long time, does that mean he is looking forward to being an...
