- Other Questions: Greyhound Industry (26 Apr 2018)
Tommy Broughan: I thank the Minister of State, but he still has not told me whether he will agree to including a white list in the legislation, which is what the welfare agencies want. He and his predecessors have told me that dogs have been exported to Argentina, Pakistan and China. I am always given the mantra that 80% of racing dogs in the UK are Irish, but they end up going from there to other...

Tommy Broughan: The Government needs to work closely with the EU on this matter.
- Other Questions: Greyhound Industry (26 Apr 2018)
Tommy Broughan: The Greyhound Rescue Association told us that, between 2010 and 2015, almost 3,000 of our greyhounds were surrendered to dog pounds, of which 2,500 were destroyed and 400 were, thankfully, homed or collected by welfare organisations. These are bad figures. In 2016, 284 greyhounds entered pounds, of which half were euthanised. The Government needs to address what is a major welfare issue. ...

Over the existence of previous Governments and the current Government, we have been used to school bundles and other proposals on housing and critical infrastructure. The...

I commend Deputy O’Sullivan and her staff, as well as the Oireachtas staff, on the work they have done on this Bill and on highlighting the issue and the need for such a Bill. The Bill before us...

- Criminal Justice (Corruption Offences) Bill 2017: Report and Final Stages (2 May 2018)
Tommy Broughan: On a point of order, we are operating the new politics. The House has very important business to transact. We have to finish the Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill, for which the entire country is waiting, and we also have to deal with a very serious Bill from the Department of Finance. Our constituents expect us to expedite that business by 10.15 p.m. tonight. Given that, the Minister for...

Tommy Broughan: I thank the Acting Chairman for that.
- Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill: Report Stage (Resumed) (2 May 2018)
Tommy Broughan: I strongly support subsection 1(1)(d)(i), the substitution by the Minister in the original Bill, and commend him for it. I am not a member of the Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport but I read carefully all the comments by colleagues at that committee. The points the Minister made on his proposal are fairly unanswerable, in particular, that between 2012 and 2016, 3,003 fixed...

- Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill: Report Stage (Resumed) (2 May 2018)
Tommy Broughan: On a point of order, can we take it for granted that, given the fact that we have spent six or seven hours and not had a conclusive debate on key amendments, the Leas-Cheann Comhairle will take it to the Business Committee in order that we can have some guidance from it for the next session? Otherwise it will be extremely frustrating. All our constituents, whatever their points of view,...
