Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2021
Vote 29 - Communications
Vote 31 - Transport
(29 Sep 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Okay, but we have to deal with the specific issue of An Post getting clogged at the moment with parcels coming from Britain. We all accept this involves companies that have not done due diligence, to use an overused term of mine, as regards Brexit preparations. From 1 July, new information will have to be provided with packages and parcels. An Post warehouses seem to be full. Packages and...

Vote 29 - Communications
Vote 31 - Transport
(29 Sep 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: No. I am looking at this issue because I asked the Taoiseach about it previously and got a general answer. All I want to know is that it is in hand in government and that communications are happening with the necessary stakeholders, including customs on anything it can do, in particular. An Post are engaging but I like to think there is some sort of involvement from the Department.

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2021
Vote 29 - Communications
Vote 31 - Transport
(29 Sep 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I appreciate that. We have had the conversation about the NDP and the of current and capital expenditure that has not been used. That is accepting the reality of the world we live in, or have done. We all want to ensure that there will not be significant delays in major capital infrastructure projects. I will ask about two specific cross-Border projects that will not shock the Minister,...

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (5 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: On the national childcare scheme, we all accept that it is a job activation scheme. The problem is that disadvantaged kids have been getting after-school care and such under the community childcare subvention programme, CCSP. A number of bodies may possibly close in the next while. I have dealt with the Minister, Deputy O'Gorman, in this regard. A review of this scheme is ongoing, as is a...

Health (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2021: Motion (5 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: We are in a better position now as regards where we are from a health point of view. There have been very dark days. During some of those dark days, the Dáil could not meet in this setting and instead had to meet in the convention centre. While that might have suited me in that I am able to get up and walk around, it probably did not suit other Members who might be somewhat more...

Health (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2021: Motion (5 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Yes. Everything is in context. We are in a better place. We have had huge buy-in from the community in regard to vaccination and adherence to guidelines and rules, although people were not always happy to do so. That was often uncomfortable for an awful lot of them and for many of us, but we are now at this particular place. On 22 October, we move to the next stage, which will bring us...

Written Answers — Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Enterprise Support Services (5 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 71. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if she will report on the recent pilot nightclub event; the details of recent engagements with the Night-time Economy Taskforce on the recommendations listed within its report (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [47886/21]

Written Answers — Department of Health: Departmental Funding (5 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 644. To ask the Minister for Health if he will report on his recent meeting with a group (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [47878/21]

Written Answers — Department of Health: Departmental Funding (5 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 645. To ask the Minister for Health if he will provide details on the recently announced funding stream that will be available (details supplied); the timeframe for which funding will be available; the criteria linked to that funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [47879/21]

The National Youth Justice Strategy 2021-2027 and Supporting Community Safety: Statements (6 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: While I welcome much of what has been said today on the National Youth Justice Strategy, we can have all the plans that we want but unless adequate resources are provided, they will not mean anything. I agree with previous speakers that this State has a history of conducting pilot projects. Those pilot projects, if successful, need to be reviewed, best practice must be put in place and the...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment (7 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 11. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the supports that will be available for workers when the plan to transition PUP recipients to jobseeker’s payments is implemented in order to ensure that they will have supports for as long as they are needed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [48617/21]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment (7 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: All present accept that we are in a different and better place at this point. I add my voice to the voices of those who have commended the people working in social protection and the necessity of making sure those payments were made. However, there are still certain sectors which, although they are reopening, will not do so to the degree necessary. It is about making sure we have all the...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment (7 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Obviously, I welcome this move. It is logical that the Minister cannot remove the PUP until, at least, all sectors are open. However, there will not necessarily be a big bang after which every sector will have opened. We need to avoid certain cohorts and people falling into gaps. Similar to Deputy Lahart, I would be interested in getting granular information in respect of those who have...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment (7 Oct 2021)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: The main thing is that protection has been provided and will be maintained for those who deserve it or need it in the relevant sectors. I agree with the Minister that the sectors have to make themselves attractive places to work. Members are aware of the difficulty caused by the fact that families cannot get home care packages because there are not enough home carers. That is a sector we...
