- Seanad: Europol Bill 2012: Committee Stage (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Ba mhaith liom buÃochas a ghabháil leis an Aire as ucht an reachtaÃocht seo a thabhairt os comhair an tSeanaid. I bprionsabail, tá Sinn Féin i fábhar an Bhille seo agus tugaimid tacaÃocht dó. I thank the Minister for introducing the Bill. In general, Sinn Féin is in favour of the Bill because, as the Minister said, crime knows no frontiers, be it a county boundary, a state...
- Seanad: Europol Bill 2012: Committee Stage (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: -----or any border whatsoever. It is important, and we support any co-operation that seeks to ensure that anybody perpetrating a crime, whether that be within or outside the State, is brought to justice and all of the parties involved are given due process. The issues we raised were with regard to data protection and the civil liberties of each of the people involved in the situation. We...
- Seanad: Social Welfare Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Has the Senator even read our programme?
- Seanad: Social Welfare Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: There are plenty of choices.
- Seanad: Social Welfare Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: What about all the other services they get? Compare like with like.
- Seanad: Social Welfare Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I did not get any time yet.
- Seanad: Social Welfare Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I want to raise a point of order. As I said on the Order of Business earlier, every Senator who wants to speak on Second Stage should be given time to do this. It is very unfair that on such an important Bill some Senators have been excluded from the Second Stage debate. It is the one issue we have all been asked to raise. Will the Leader extend the time for this debate?
- Seanad: Social Welfare Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: On a point of order, there were Senators who did not have the opportunity to contribute to the debate because the time allocated for it had been exhausted. The Minister has now exhausted her time and the House is due to debate another matter. It is very unfair that she should be allowed to make a further lengthy contribution when others-----
- Seanad: Credit Institutions (Stabilisation) Act 2010: Motion (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: D'airigh muid go leor leithscéalta ó Sheanadóirà an Rialtais. B'fhéidir gur cheart dóibh leithscéalta a ghabháil arÃs mar gheall go bhfuil siad ag tacú leis an rún seo, mar nà amhlaidh a rinne siad nuair a bhà siad sa bhFreasúra. Is léiriú eile é seo ar na U-casachaà breátha atá Seanadóirà an Rialtais ag déanamh inniu sa Seanad. Two years ago Fianna Fáil, at the...
- Seanad: Credit Institutions (Stabilisation) Act 2010: Motion (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: The last Government's banking policy landed us in this mess. Why does the Government that came to power on a so-called democratic revolution continue the same policy? Ba chóir don Seanad cur i gcoinne na reachtaÃochta seo. Mar a fheicimid, nÃl an chreidiúint ag dul go dtà na gnóthaà agus nÃl an Rialtas ag déanamh aon rud le sin a chur ina cheart. Droch reachtaÃocht atá ann agus...
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Employment Support Schemes (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Go raibh maith agat, a Chathaoirligh, agus fearaim céad fáilte roimh an Aire. Tá mé thar a bheith buÃoch di as teacht isteach leis an gceist seo a fhreagairt. The Minister will be aware of concerns raised previously about JobBridge. We believe it is stopping the provision of real jobs and is leading to exploitation of workers. There are many ludicrous examples of internships which...
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Employment Support Schemes (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I thank the Minister for her reply, although I do not think she answered the specific question I asked. I would like to know how many participants got placements with Departments, organisations, agencies or companies and how many of them were subsequently employed by those bodies. We have been told that 49% of those who did internships in the public sector have found paid employment, but I...

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: That is a question of volunteerism.

- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Employment Support Schemes (18 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: The Minister is not the only one with experience in business.
- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Táimid buailte le séasúr na Nollag. Is dóigh, an t-am seo an tseachtain seo chugainn, beidh cuid mhaith turcaà agus ham ite agus mar sin de, ach tá daoine áirithe amuigh ansin nach bhfuil ag súil chomh mór sin leis an Nollaig. The Christmas season is upon us, but people are concerned that it will not be easy. It was heartening to be at a presentation by the Samaritans who outlined...
- Seanad: Equal Status (Amendment) Bill 2012: Second Stage (19 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Maybe we should have followed Iceland's economic policy and burnt the bondholders.
- Seanad: Equal Status (Amendment) Bill 2012: Second Stage (19 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Tá Sinn Féin i bhfábhar an Bille seo mar gur athrú teicniúil atá i gceist go bunúsach agus go bhfuil sé ag teacht, mar a dúradh, leis an rialú atá déanta ag an gCúirt Eorpach. With regard to insurance, we should consider the role of statistical evidence about risk factors when the price of insurance is being determined. Insurance premiums are based on risk factors. In general,...
- Seanad: Social Welfare Bill 2012: Committee Stage (19 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Is maith liom go bhfuil mé ag fáil deise labhairt ar an Bhille seo anocht, mar nà raibh dóthain ama againn aréir le go bhfuighinn isteach air. Is cinnte go bhfuil muid ag plé an Bhille is tábhachtaà a phlé muid i saol an tSeanaid seo. B'fhéidir go bhfuil muid tagtha ag an pointe is tábhachtaà sa Bhille sin, mar is cinnte i mbéal an phobail gur à an gearradh atá á dhéanamh...
- Seanad: Social Welfare Bill 2012: Committee Stage (19 Dec 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: On a point of order, I do not want to cut across the Minister, but I do not see what this has to do with the section 5. Most other Senators -----
