Marc MacSharry: For a verbal valuation?
- Public Accounts Committee: University of Limerick: Financial Statements 2019 (17 Jun 2021)
Marc MacSharry: It would be a pretty good wage for a verbal valuation. How is it that UL has not rung GVM's managing partner and asked whether a copy of the €9,500 valuation could be sent to it? I am sure there is not a partner in a company in the world who gets €9,500 for an opinion over the telephone. Therefore, I assume there is a document. Has Mr. Flaherty called GVM and asked it for that?

Marc MacSharry: Is there any reason given all the recent media coverage and the fact that the witnesses knew they were coming in here today?
- Public Accounts Committee: University of Limerick: Financial Statements 2019 (17 Jun 2021)
Marc MacSharry: I am really pleased to hear that but Mr. Flaherty has led me to believe that although €9,500 was paid for the service, there is no paper trail other than the bill. What exactly was GVM paid the €9,500 for?
- Public Accounts Committee: University of Limerick: Financial Statements 2019 (17 Jun 2021)
Marc MacSharry: Yes, I will be very brief. I see during Covid we managed to spend €1.02 million on entertainment. I cannot wait to see the breakdown. Could the witnesses send us that? In the previous year, €1.7 million was spent but there was no Covid then. The university still managed to spend €1.02 million on entertainment in 2019-20, although half of the year was affected by...
- Written Answers — Department of Finance: Financial Services (24 Jun 2021)
Marc MacSharry: 195. To ask the Minister for Finance further to Parliamentary Question No. 219 of 8 June 2018, if the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman can now consider older cases under the Financial Services and Ombudsman Act 2017 from persons that were of the view that they were mis-sold payment protection insurance in cases in which the conduct being complained of occurred during or after 2002;...
- Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2021: Second Stage (Resumed) (29 Jun 2021)
Marc MacSharry: I thank the Minister and I am glad to have a few brief moments to make a few points. I welcome the Bill to give an additional two years, but I believe it should have been three years. Deputy Calleary made good points on this subject earlier and I support them. I also support the year for the development plans. I have grave concerns, however, about us meeting our housing targets and I have...

To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if she will consider introducing a second live performance support scheme in 2021 given that some businesses were not aware that they were eligible to apply for the scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. - Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)
Marc MacSharry: I welcome the witnesses. We were given evidence at the last meeting that the HEA received a protected disclosure about the Dunnes site. Can Dr. Wall confirm that?
- Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)
Marc MacSharry: Can I put it another way? I understand Dr. Wall's difficulties and I understand there are anomalies in legislation and we will get to that shortly. Is it fair to say that, notwithstanding the limitations placed on Dr. Wall by legislation and by previous practice, he was sent information about the Dunnes site that he just was not in a position to use? Would that be fair to say?
- Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)
Marc MacSharry: I let Dr. Wall finish but we are getting repetitive.
- Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)
Marc MacSharry: Here is how it looks to me. A protected disclosure was made in the University of Limerick, UL. Pressure was applied. Some of the protected disclosure was withdrawn. I have a kind of conspiratorial mind and I feel pressure was applied to do that. I sympathise with the limitations on the HEA but I am not happy about this. What new powers will the legislation give the HEA?

Marc MacSharry: We have the heads of a Bill but we are a long way from the Bill.
- Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)
Marc MacSharry: Was the HEA in any way involved in the appointment of the previous president of UL? Was it consulted on it? Was it aware of the recruitment process? Very specifically, was it aware that the selection process for short-listing was not followed?
