Seanad: Health Bill 2004: Second Stage. (10 Dec 2004)

Terry Leyden: We bought it to ensure that the maternity services there were maintained and developed. I will go into no further detail on Roscommon hospital but I am trying to highlight the scaremongering tactics of the Opposition parties, which are of no help.

Seanad: Health Bill 2004: Second Stage. (10 Dec 2004)

Terry Leyden: The Opposition parties are undermining the future development of Roscommon County Hospital instead of campaigning as I am for an additional physician, anaesthetist and support staff. That is what we will get early next year. I will consider the Bill and its details but it is important to get that off my chest because I find it disturbing to read the propaganda in this regard.

Seanad: Health Bill 2004: Second Stage. (10 Dec 2004)

Terry Leyden: Perhaps I might have an opportunity on the Adjournment. The Cathaoirleach might encourage me to put down a notice on the Adjournment for further elaboration on the health developments and services. It is very important that public representatives from each county and region have an opportunity to serve on the regional health forums and bring the views of the people to the new executive. I...

The one section over which I would place a question mark is the Houses of the Oireachtas, since the presence of the Garda Síochána here is a big asset to the work of the Houses. It is all right now, since we are in peacetime, but in difficult times it was very important that...

Seanad: Order of Business. (16 Dec 2004)

Terry Leyden: Will the Leader in the new year arrange for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to come to the House to debate the question of missing persons? From 1977 to 2004 over 50 Irish people went missing and have not been traced. The members of the Garda Síochána have been very active and are doing a tremendous job in tracing missing persons. However, many are feared dead and their...

Seanad: Order of Business. (16 Dec 2004)

Terry Leyden: Such a debate in the new year would provide an opportunity of highlighting those families who have been affected by the disappearance of over 50 people. Many of them were murdered and their graves have not been traced. At this time of year it is hard on the families involved. There are people out there who know what happened. They should come forward and co-operate with the Garda Síochána...

It will regulate this sector, which has been the subject...
